"No bylaw, routeing guide restriction or fare manual condition may be enforced unless the official trying to do so can explain clearly to a randomly selected member of the public a) what is meant by it and b) why it is in place"

Make passengers making a call more than a short 'Where are you?' or 'Im at so and so, can you pick me up please' stand in the vestibule to talk on the phone.

Will this include people sitting next to each other being banned from talking as well?

Ban all rustling crisp packets or rustling plastic bags. People who rustle them constantly on a quiet train really annoy me; its torturous.

Ban 'audio graffiti'.

And by that I mean; 'security announcements', 'safety announcements', lists of things sold at the buffet/cafe-bar/shop, reminders to take my personal belongings with me when I leave the train and reminders to mind the gap between the train and the platform edge.

Personally, I'd settle for a one in ten chance of the existing bylaws being enforced, rather than trying t introduce more. At this stage, they already cover pretty much anything any reasonable person would object to.

"No train operating a service covering greater than 75 miles shall be without a decent buffet car in which customers may purchase and eat a selection of food, where "food", for the purposes of this byelaw, shall be taken to mean a menu of substances which actually are nutritious, wholesome and delicious by the standards of normal human beings. In addition, a wide selection of reasonably-priced and thoughtfully-chosen alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks shall be sold."

"No train shall have staff, provisions, facilities or any other thing on board that has gone anywhere near RailGourmet, nor has been supplied, tampered with or generally had its price increased by them."

And should not luggage be placed in the luggage racks, or on the floor between the seat backs.:D

Nooooooooo!!

My little boy would love it if I stashed him up on the luggage rack. He's 6 now though, so I have to buy him a ticket.

--- old post above --- --- new post below ---

No train operating a service of more than 50 miles shall have less than 8 wheels per coach.

When "on depot", all stock shall be clearly visible from every conceivable vantage point. A speed limit of no greater than 4mph shall apply to all passenger trains passing depots and stabling points.

Yes, any announcement that could apply to *any* train, rather than that specific one is most likely to be unnecessary clutter.

I think the same should apply to Passenger Information Screens. It's not that prevalent on NR, but on the DLR especially they're constantly scrolling all sorts of useless messages, so you sometimes have to wait to see the departure information. If a message is that important, print it on a static sign!

Oh, come on. You can't sneak that one in. 4mph is so much faster than any of the trains seem to be allowed to go past Selhurst - you might risk a catastrophe by increasing speeds like that.

I've one; No person will be allowed within 500 meters of any railway line, depot or station platform if in possession of a camera or notebook. <D

Trains operating on the Cumbrian Coast, Crewe to Derby, and trains which serve Lincoln or Skegness must have at least 80 seats. (Class 153s have between 72 and 75 seats).

Also use of industry jargon and the third person in passenger announcements, eg:
  • "The next LOROL train..." (heard at Wembley Central)
  • "Passengers are requested to... (heard all the time)

So what about photography students? Any of them at, for example, Manchester College (Sackville St. Campus) would be somewhat stuffed wouldn't they - too close to MAN

I say band the one person who always sits at the 4 seat and table configuration on a class 365.

Guaranteed that every time I get a ride on a 365, one person takes up the same amount of space as 4. Not only does it annoy me, but families and groups of people that wish or need to sit next to one another!

No suprises for guessing on the nature of my contribution.....

Also some provision for smokers on The Sleeper Services.

Byelaw no. 39999. Any group of chavs who persist on playing rap music at full volume on their phones, despite being warned about it by the guard or any passengers beforehand, will be thrown off the train at the next stop regardless of their age.
