I would like to arrive in London before the entire day has vanished on Sunday (7/10), so departing Edinburgh on the first services of the day is not a great option. I'm returning on 9/10 (not fussed about times or whether it's on a train). I have a YP railcard. Can getting to London for lunchtime-ish on Sunday be achieved for a reasonable cost?

The closest I've got is an overnight stopover, leaving on Saturday evening, in Stockport (can stop with family) and then on. Do I have to use singles for this? Or could I use a super off peak ticket?

Your advice is appreciated!

If your journey cannot be completed on the first day, you may continue on the second day.

No Callie on Saturdays :( (best alternative is to try the Megabus sleeper from Glasgow, which does run Saturdays)

If your journey cannot be completed on the first day, you may continue on the second day.

So if I ensure that the journey can't be completed tomorrow (6/10) because I happen to set off at 6pm down the west coast, it's completely kosher to just get on the train in Stockport (which is as far as I got, honest) with the ticket and continue? - I was trying to read around on this and got confused!

As long as you are on a permitted route, there is no requirement to go as far as you could on the first day, as there might not be suitable accommodation there. Setting off at 6pm you are perfectly permitted to stay in overnight accommodation en-route.

To be clear though - is this permitted if I buy a web special super off peak single from east coast? Or does it need to be the return ticket?
