Raynes Park to Gillingham (Kent)

I've done the usual, in the fact that I've lurked a while, but not been brave enough to post.

I now need some help however.

I need to know the cheapest way to get from Raynes Park to Gillingham (Kent) and back.

I have an Oyster, but no railcards.

Yes sorry, I was in a bit of a rush and although had it all set out in my head- just completely forgot when it cam to posting.

I will be going out towards the end of the week (say Friday or Saturday) sometime later this month and returning Sunday. All journeys will be off peak.

The open rtn came out at around £24 (Not HS1) and the any permitted was about £28. I am not bothered about HS1 as it doesn't give any real benefit when travelling to/from the Medway towns.

Epsom - Gillingham off-peak return +Any Permitted is £24.30 and should allow you to start short at Raynes Park using HS1 if you wished.

Anytime Day Return (ADR) - £24.50 route NOT HS1
ADR - £24.80 route Any Permitted
Cheap Day Return (CDR) - £18.50 NOT HS1

Saver Return (SVR) - £24.10 NOT HS1
SVR - £28.00 - AP

From Motspur Park first two are £25.70 & £25.40 resp, all others the same.
I prefer the MP booking office

The any permitted factor from Epsom is a real bonus! I assume this allows cross London Transfer too?

Just to mix it up a bit- how much would a single cost- just leaving on say a Thursday off-peak?

Yes - the ✠ in ✠Any Permitted on the ticket indicates this.

Is there not a cheaper way of doing it by using Oyster?

I have found Oyster, Raynes Park to Victoria = £2.40
Then Gillingham to Victoria rtn (using rtn portion only) = £12.80

Total cost = £15.20

This is for the single, but I'm not sure if I can get a rtn journey doing the same (out Friday, rtn Sunday).

I'm sure you meant Anytime Day Return (SDR), Off-Peak Day Return (CDR), and Off-Peak Return (SVR)

On the down platform they are by the side gate around the 2nd carriage from the front. On the up they are in the booking hall and depending on the length of the train that may be some way back. If it was critical to catch a particular train to Gillingham then I'd get the stopper which arrives 5 minutes before at Abbey Wood, while on the way back I'd expect to have to get the next train anyway.

So to confirm the cheapest is one way ticket is:
Oyster, Raynes Park to Abbey Wood = £2.40 off peak
Single ticket Abbey Wood to Gillingham = £8.70 off peak

Total = £11.1

Compared to the point to point ticket for £18.10?

So thanks guys, I got a single today plus Oyster Pay As You Go for a total cost of £11.10.

I also enquired about the weekender ticket from Abbey Wood to Gillingham for travel Saturday, coming back Sunday and althought the guy at Raynes Park (South West Trains) had it on the screen, he said he couldn't sell it to me- is this correct?

Incedently, he also told me that Pay As You Go would cost £4.90 (it was £2.40) so I'm not convinced he really knew what he was on about!

Any ideas? Or does the Weekender have to be bought from a South Eastern ticket office only?

I think the Weekender is a non-standard ticket so SWT would not be obliged to sell it. But could be completely wrong.
