There was a recent "business news snippet" in a newspaper that said....

"Ford has said that it will cut several hundred jobs in Europe because of declining product demand...Jobs will also go in Germany"

Does no-one ever vet these items before they go to print....or is Geography not one of the strong points within the media, that has caused this statement to say that Germany is external to Europe..

Not so much an annoying term, but the roll of the eyes from competitors (and sometimes hosts) in quiz shows when they have failed to answer correctly (or at all) a question on topics other than TV and sport, implying a statement such as "How could anyone be expected to know that Beethoven's 9th symphony was composed by someone called Beethoven?".
And, diving deeper into this sludge pit, the assumption that "Sport" in this context means "Football".

There are some elderly refined ladies in our village to whom this most certainly does not apply to and I am sure if questioned, they would describe this method of pronunciation as "slovenly"

I do take your point nonetheless and will quote what I heard last week when a group of young girls who were visiting our village by bus from Macclesfield were questioned by the driver of the number 19 bus as to their ages to purchase the child fares and to my everlasting horror, one girl was heard to utter the phrase...."AM FOUR EEN"....which I can only take to be some localised Anglo-Saxon patois that has been handed down from generation to generation.

Unfortunately some teachers are what would be descibed as slovenly in attitude and clothes.

It isn't surprising that schoolchildren will see this as the way to go.

A schoolchild on the t.v. yesterday was talking about the teacher and pupil who have gone mssing in France.

He said how the teacher was everybodys friend "not like a teacher, he liked me on Facebook"

I certainly don't tar all schoolchildren with the same brush. Unfortunately though as the years pass manners and respect are slowly becoming a thing of the past.

What's wrong with that? That's her accent, nothing to do with vocabulary or grammar or anything.

Another one that crops up with depressing regularity in news programmes is the description of slightly disrupted commuter journeys as "misery". Misery is losing your house, finding out your child has a terminal disease, having your wife/partner leave you for someone else etc. The experience of commuting is merely "irksome" or "trying". Unless you are involved in actual carnage it ain't "misery".

Why just not totally ignore that particular football club and spend all your efforts talking about the club that you support...and give them some "free advertising" instead.

I thought that was curvy? Not that I'm one to pass judgement about being overweight

I find pretty much any term/phrase can be annoying if it's repeated too often and it annoys me when it's assumed the viewer has a minute attention span (telling what's coming up after the break and then after the break telling us what we've seen!)


Also, in football when a big club loses tv and radio cite this is because said large team didn't turn up, didn't play well and were wasteful whilst making it clear that the small team were only there to make up the numbers. As an Aston Villa fan I had experience of this last Tuesday.
