I wonder why the series has been delayed this year , I'm sure it started in September previously, or am I mistaken ?

I may be wrong but I think it normally airs in January.

I love these programmes.

Delayed? This year's series has been and gone. Next will no doubt be aired in January like all the others were.

I may be wrong but I think it normally airs in January.

just watching Oban to Corrour on bbc4, the bit with the sleeper annoyed me - he's sat on the sleeper talking about it leaving the station, cue external shot of a 156 leaving a station <( [/pedantic]

ruined the whole program! I'm writing to the BBC and parliament to complain!!! and these days I think we're due about 6 inquiries into the matter!!!

Re the original post, he boarded the carriage I was already on at Stone and alighted at the next stop (Stoke-on-Trent). This was at approx. 8am on a Monday morning. He was doing some pieces to camera - seem to recall he said he was doing an Alyesbury to Aberystwyth journey.

The size of the entourage was conspicous - camerman, sound engineer and I'd conservatively estimate another 5 people.

I look forward to his attempts to highlight Wolverhampton's 'good points.' That's if he doesn't pass straight through the place. And I wonder if he'll step foot outside Stoke or Crewe station!?

Steady on.....

In Wolverhampton you had the big Chubb and Yale Factories making all the locks plus lot's of other bits and pieces.

Stoke is "The Potteries" obviously or whats left of it

As for Crewe ....The Railway ??

No idea. I don't know the area. Here's what the DigiGuide programme info says for that episode:

TRAVEL: Great British Railway Journeys
On: BBC 2 South East (102)
Date: Thursday 10th January 2013 (starting in 21 days)
Time: 18:30 to 19:00 (30 minutes long)

A daily alert is set for 15 minutes before 18:30
Dudley to Bridgenorth.
Michael Portillo takes to the tracks with his copy of Bradshaw's Victorian railway guidebook, travelling the length and breadth of the British Isles to see what of Bradshaw's World remains. The series of journeys along the tracks that helped fuel the Industrial Revolution continues on the stunning Severn Valley Railway. Michael learns how Victorian blacksmithing was not for the faint-hearted, rides one of Britain's most modern trains and traverses the remarkable Victoria Bridge.
(Stereo, Widescreen, Subtitles, Audio Described, 3 Star)

Starring: Michael Portillo

Dudley? That seems a bit of an odd starting point unless he's going to take a trip down the old OW&W railway, which of course is mothballed beyond Round Oak...

He seems to have completely avoided Droitwich again. :|

I had a feeling they might be considering winding it up, as they've made a lot of journeys and this country, and its rail network, are only so big.

Looking forward to more continental journeys though. :)

He was on Radio 2 this afternoon.
Said it looks like no more UK episodes as they may have done them all. (Possibly)
But that European may have a lot more in the pipeline.

Doesn't surprise me, although they never went to KWVR despite visiting every other heritage railway!

European one was very interesting!

There's been no complaints about rolling stock so far!

I've only watched Monday's so far, although I did notice that as he was leaving Banbury for Leamington(?), the screen behind him said "calling at Banbury..."
