Saturday 3rd November will see the first ever visit of an HST to the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway. It will operate as a charity railtour from London St Pancras to Keighley, before traversing the rarely used junction onto the KWVR and along the branch to Oxenhope. The tour will be operated by East Midlands Trains and is in aid of The Samaritans and Weston Park Hospital, Sheffield.

Real Ale will be served on board the train.
Tickets are available from various points along the Midland Mainline route.
First ever visit of an HST to the KWVR
Whilst on the KWVR, KWVR ticket holders can travel on the HST at normal KWVR fares.

Tickets are reasonably priced and available from ukrailtours.com

Sounds an amazing event. Oddly enough I suspect Oxenhope's platform would take the full length of an HST. Certainly not the case for Damens though!

I don't suppose there will be any other trains operating on the KWVR when the HST is there as it is longer than the loop at Damems. Even at gala events trains are normally restricted to 6 coaches.

Well the ukrailtours page does say while the HST is parked up (I presume in Oxenhope) visitors will have time to "...travel on scheduled steam-hauled trains on the KWVR.". There is quite a long engine shed at Oxenhope (115m or so if Google Earth is to be believed) so maybe they'll shunt the HST in there. That'll be worth seeing! How long is a full HST set then? Someone will know.

I imagine the set will need to be tanked so it could run up to Broughton Road or could even make it to Neville Hill.

Sadly can't do the full tour but will certainly try and get to do the Worth Valley with it.

I don't think so HSTs can do Leeds - Aberdeen - London - Leeds all on the same tank of fuel (unless you mean water?) so this little jaunt should be no problem.

We have quite a few long sidings we could store it in, don't panic. If all the stock is in the right place, it doesn't matter about blocking a few sidings for a day. Also, no problem with it not fitting in Damems loop, because the steam train will fit completely into the loop allowing the HST to go straight through.

Doing this. The logical idea while the set is on the line is for it to do a return trip. There will be a normal saturday service running, so instead of shunting it into the shed, use it on an additional KWVR service.

Its advertised a 3hr visit to Oxenhope, so plenty time to get to Keighley and back before the return trip.

No they can't. They are fuelled at Clayhills before they head back South.

My apologies, I hadn't realised there was a break in that diagram for refueling (actually is that even still a diagram since the timetables got shaken up?).

We took the 1S03 back in the summer and once we had all alighted the set did move away from the station so I assumed it did go to clayhills for fuel.

Getting back to the HST on KWVR. I realise maybe it's a bit early for details but I have a few questions which those in the know about all things K might be able to answer?

1) Is there an idea of the arrival time in Keighley?

2) Will it have travel to north west of Keighley having passed Shipley and so on and reverse, or is there some clever route from Derby which will end up it coming south east towards Keighley and directly onto the Worth Valley line without stopping? That'd be a really good trip if so.

3) For the travelers who just wish to get on from Keighley to Oxenhope will they be able to get on as it's pulling into Keighley from Derby (I presume a lot of seats will be full) or will they have to wait for it to get to Oxenhope and then get on it for a local-only trip back to Keighley and back?

I can help with 2 & 3.

2. It will come through Shipley, as that only requires one reverse onto the branch. If it was to come from Skipton direction, that will require a double reverse move, as the only from there is. Into Platform 1 on the up, then reverse back out onto the down via the cross over, then reverse again to gain access to the branch. From Shipley way, you only need to do the 2nd reverse.

3. Someone already mentioned KWVR's fares available, as there is a Keighley option, so seats will be available from Keighley going up 1st time I would think. Too early to tell if Keighley passengers will alight on the NR platform or KWVR platform.

I'm waiting final details from the traffic manager, but I am told that the HST would do a round trip or two during the time on the KWVR, so it wouldn't be parked up anywhere. It can pass the steam train in Damems Loop - as long as the steam train is admitted to the loop first then the HST just goes past.

Is it possible to join the train at Keighley and head up to oxen hope for as many return trips as possible

How much is this privilege

I believe this will be possible, at standard KWVR fares.

I am still waiting for further details from the traffic manager, so will pester for more details.

Think you'll find this may be the HST being dragged.

No because the HST isn't there for the rest of the day. It is only there while it does the round trips. As far as i am aware the HST will not be dragged on KWVR at any point. It will be the DRB/DMU or Loco hauled, do not know which.
