The proposed upgrade of Stratford railway station in east London will be fully funded by the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA), it has been announced.

The body is investing the £104m required to pay for improved capacity and better accessibility.

Improvements include 14 new lifts, two new station entrances and an additional westbound Central Line platform.

Stratford is served by two underground lines, overground rail services and the Docklands Light Railway.

It needs more because it's going to be the Olympic Park. Teddington doesn't need £104 million pounds because:

a). It isn't getting a DLR extension.
b). It isn't getting a new station with trains to Paris.
c). It isn't hosting the Olympics.
d). It isn't going to represent London during the Olympics.

Currently they have 2 usable subways, but one doesn't reach all the platforms
and as far as i am aware there's no exit on the ollympic park side, which is also the walk way to stratford international (as the tunnel was cancled).

Can you list all the entrances to stratford station please as I've only seen the main one?

One entrance is now closed as the third subway is emergency only.

Nope only one entrance, maybe they should redevelop the part were platforms 11 & 12 are as it looks seriuosly dilapidated!

Stratford has 1 entrance.

There are 2 subways, (as one is emergency only). It is incredibly annoying that the subway next to the Jubilee Line doesn't go to platform 12 - especially when you have a 2 minute connection - as you have to go through 1 subway, up onto a platform, down into another subway, to platform 12, up the stairs, run along the platform and find your train's just left. And if they had guards, he'd most likely be in the back cab laughing at you.

a). It's the truth!
b). Why thank you. ;)
c). Can you imagine if Teddington DID host the Olympics? :o

I think that's going to happen, I remember a proposal for Silverlink Metro to use those platforms as a terminus to let Crossrail have the Low-Level platforms... sill don't know where my Stansted-Stratford service will go, though! :(

The DLR extention to s'ford international is having the low level platforms as well as the line as far as canning town.

The stratford trains and NLL terminators have 3 platforms to share between them. Given that some NLL trains will be going to barking or via the ELL in future, they should manage.

In theory, they could still use the same platform they use now, but even if the route does get caped, is it a big loss? No really is it? Cos I don't know how many people use the line, cos they could just go to Tottyhale and pick up the SEx Express from there...

Thanks for that Nick.

Tom. The Stratford - Stansted Airport service is a Semi-Fast. Customers for Stansted Airport are told not to get on it, they're told to wait for a StanEx.
It serves alot of intermediate stations, (yes, including Enfield Lock), and provides a quicker alternative for me travelling to London, and means that those wanting an intermediate station when returning from Stansted Airport won't have to change at Harlow Town (or whatever the other limited service one is).

Also, on Sundays, the Stratford-Stansted Airport service turns into a Stratford-Broxbourne service, picking up the Hertford East stopping patter, with the Hertford East trains going via Seven Sisters, and the slow trains to Cheshunt (usually via SS) don't run.

So yes, it would be a VERY big loss if it was cancelled, you should see you busy the platform is for the 08:18 to Stratford is at Enfield Lock despite the previous train being less than 20 mins earlier. It also takes ALOT of stress from the Hertford East services - (although these still get packed during the peaks), and provides Northumberland Park with a train service - (the Hertford East trains don't stop unless there's a match on).

"Country"?! Its in the middle of a freaking housing estate. With a park next to it. If you want to see country junctions, try Brockenhurst, nice and quiet, yet not too remote.

In the cab with the paper
Stratford needs the cash. For one thing, P10a, 11 and 12 don't have lifts. There are also the small matters of the DLR moving into the Low Level platforms and what will happen with the Silverlink services when they do, how Stratford International will be linked with Stratford mainline and what preparations will be needed to cater for traffic heading to the 2012 Olympics.

Some may say that the West Anglia services into P12 are not that important, but I would say that you need to see how busy these trains get in the peaks to make a better judgement. Their importance will only increase as the Olympics draw closer, as they will provide an important link between Stansted Airport and the 2012 Olympic site.

Memorex: We don't have guards to sit in the back cab and laugh at you when you miss your train. However, us drivers can still see far enough back down the platform to see anyone we've left behind. I normally check back to see if anyone is running down the platform, but if the doors are shut then that's how they stay. Perhaps you should make sure you're on an earlier tube to make your connection

Wow you go Fred!

St Albans gets 12 Trains a hour in the peak

11 FCC 319s in either direction.
1 Silverlink 321/313 to Watford.
** amount of trains heading to Bedford or Selhurst or somewhere else on ECS.

Line Speed reaches 100mph on the Fast Line, and 90mph on the Slow Lines.

Pretty impressive for a smallish city in Hertfordshire eh? ;)

Paignton gets a bus every 5 mins :p

Shame the train service doesn't match! Well, obviously 5 mins would be silly ;)
