Travelling Bogies

Hi Guys,

On wednesday at about 10:30 I was travelling along the M5 (south) Between Tiverton(J27) and Cullompton(J28) and on the opposite side there was a Lorry with Two sets of Train Bogies going North.

Now, I thought this was a one off but today at the same time same stretch I saw another set of Two Bogies going North.

Now, Does anybody know what they were doing; Where they were from and where they are going?

they might well have been off for some works attention - 2 in 2 out seems a sensible arrnagement to ensure you keep your wheelset float up.

Must've been from Laira I reckon (although Exeter depot is a slim possibility), harder to tell where they were going.

My thoughts were that they were from Laira but im not too sure..

Do you know what type of bogies they were? BT10s, commonwealths? etc..

Most likely, Bombardiers Crewe Works. This is were most of the HST Bogies go for refurbishment these days, including the FGW ones -Mk3 & HST PC. If theyre DMU Bogies, then WABTECs Doncaster works will be their destination.

Do you know what type of bogies they were? BT10s, commonwealths? etc..

It would be quite to identify bogies that are on a moving lorry, while observing them from a moving train.

They were observed going in the opposite direction on the M5 but even then I would be surprised if they could be identified by type unless you were a real expert.
