Michael Portillo filming at Stoke station today

Just seen Michael Portillo and a film crew on platform 2 at Stoke. He looked like he was about to board the 1734 EMT to Crewe but I can't be too sure as I was getting on the 1733 to Derby.

Lots of stock footage being filmed too.

Interestingly enough, the EMT guard on my train seemed to be aware of this and stood a polite distance away from the train (at the rear of the train directly facing the film crew, who were panning straight across at our train).

Are rail employees primed with specific instruction when it's known that Portillo will be filming?

I would imagine the BBC or any other television station would have to get permission to film at a station when the film will be put in the public domain. In fact, in the credits of Great British Railway Journeys, which is what he was probably filming, they say "Thanks to Network Rail and Northern Trains" or whichever TOCs are appropriate. I imagine some staff could get a bit tetchy if a camera crew turned up unannounced so they probably would have been told.

Last week he was seen (pastel coloured jacket as usual!) at High Wycombe, Banbury, Leamington Spa and Stratford-upon-Avon.

On 31st of August he was on our train with the film crew and we were briefed before starting our shift. Lovely man, took time to chat and say hi. Even signed a book for me.

Has he done the Bradshaw continental series that will be on tv in October. Only know about the programme as the publishers of the bradshaws continental guide spoke to me last week about the book and mentioned the tv series.

It's not a Film Crew. The esteemed forum members are getting confused. There are just a couple of people out and about with him to film Crewe.

Got to agree with that. Haven't watched his programme religiously but the episodes I've seen have been really enjoyable.

One Sunday I saw him get off the 1006 Exeter St Davids (ex Bristol) to Penzance at Dawlish accompanied by a film crew. Even though I've watched Great British Railway Journeys I didn't recognise him at first - it was my Dad who pointed him out. A few of the passengers on the train recognised him too.

The production company would meet with the railway company PR department and draw up a schedule. It would then be up to the company to decide who to pass that information on to.

I didn't know he was on the sleeper! Hopefully he wasn't on the Far North Line after, he certainly wasn't stuck on it after the fatality near Thurso later that day.

He only joined the train for the Aviemore to Inv section. They did travel on the Far North Line after filming in the indoor market opposite the station.

He has filmed a Southampton? to Immingham journey for the new series, he named 66742 "Port of Immingham Centenary 1912-2012" at the end.

I wonder why the series has been delayed this year , I'm sure it started in September previously, or am I mistaken ?

If its been delayed, it's because there is a series about the bradshaws continental guide to coincide with the reprint of the book, which was release for sale last Thursday.
