This is where the lines mentioned in the preamble sometimes have a hidden meaning. Mossend was on the Caledonian Railway Main Line, then the following two lines in the preamble made mention of the Cleland and Midcalder line and the Glasgow Central Railway.

Not all railway lines have closed stations, but can form a very short linkage between two other named lines and there is an established precedent for this on this quiz, especially where there are many legs of a journey. A very short section of the Hope Valley line without any closed stations forms a linkage between the Warrington and Stockport Railway and the Manchester, Buxton, Matlock and Midlands Junction Railway.

It is a ploy that I chose to employ on infrequent journeys, just to keep us all on our toes and not to allow complacency to lull us into a false sense of security.
