Freedom Passes and provincial ENCTS

Something I've often wondered, what happens when a freedom pass is put on the ITSO reader on a provincial bus, and what happens when an ENCTS card is put on an oyster reader.

I did try my adult oyster card on our Ticketer readers, and it didn't do anything, but combined with another RFID card (example an ENCTS pass or a bank card) it displayed the message "more than one card in range".

The concession passes from the Midlands don't work on the London oyster readers

Presenting an ENCTS to a Gateline oyster reader will show 'Seek Assistance' - well, it atleast used to. Haven't tried it on a Bus reader, cause that wouldn't make sense would it!?

Given an ENCTS pass isn't valid on any rail based systems in London it will show Seek Assistance

At least that shows that the two things talk to each other.

Surely someone here has touched an ENCTS pass on a London bus?

I have said above that they don't work on oyster readers whereas London ones work on the provincial readers.

Never tried mine on the Oyster reader, just show it to the driver who might nod, grunt or just ignore me.

Sometimes they seem to press something which I presume records that an ouside London pass has been used.

Yes, they have a button to press for Concessionary passes (used a lot on Metroline's 84 service when it had the TfL ticket machines, as Herts passes wouldn't work on it!) and one for paper Travelcard users (either not pressed at all, or pressed multiple times IMO!)

My Mum has. It caused the card reader to fail, requiring a reboot of the ticket machine.

On the plus side, it meant a free ride for me and everyone else using PAYG who boarded at the same stop.

I wonder why? Both are RFID cards, and it ought to have been possible for them to work.

Oyster's been around a long time and pre-dates ITSO cards. IIRC, Oyster readers are to be upgraded to accept ITSO-compatible cards in due course.

I don't think they're out until next month. My guess is that it will look like the existing Oyster Photocards, rather than a Freedom Pass. (The new scheme is being funded by TfL, whereas the Freedom Pass is funded by London Borough Councils.)

Well yes, but itso readers will recognise my adult oyster and my contactless debit card as being two different cards.

So at a guess, it'll be a blue Oyster with either "60+" or "60-65" and the holder's photo and name on it.

I see that this link specifies London residents, whereas previous discussion on here suggested that this would be suitable for provincial ENCTS users who want to use tube/rail in London.

I'd be very surprised if London was to offer such large benefits to non-Londoners with no reciprocal arrangements.
