Journey on the renewed forum

I thought I'd post a short account of my trip on the newly-refurbished RailUKforums network this morning, 5th September.

Firstly, I was very impressed with the removal of the barriers at my home station. Instead of being held outside the website while I logged-in every time, I was on to the platforms immediately. It does make using the forum a more welcoming experience.

Then the connections have been much improved - being able to pass easily from one thread to another without undue waits and delays.

Once on my way, I appreciated the smoothness of my journey - no nasty clunks due to worn-out infrastructure. And - very important from a safety viewpoint - no disasterous crashes anymore.

All in all, I am very impressed with the new journey-experience and think it was well worth the inconvenience of yesterday's blockade.

So I would like to offer my appreciation and thanks to the staff of the FOC [Forum Operating Company] concerned.

Unfortunately it has not been smooth. Whilst we believe we undertook a fair bidding process, the incumbent operator who recently lost the right to provide the service described the process as "madness" and that we were putting "quality over price."

The DFT (Department of Forum Transfers) believe the decision is the right one for customers of this service.

Hmmm, I'm trying to work out where I've heard something similar before

I too have noticed the much improved service, with increased line speeds. It was worth the disruption of yesterday and replacement buses for the improvements.

Any chance of swapping the DfT for the DFT? These forum transfer people actually seem to be competent

I wouldnt be so sure, rumour is they are going to replace loco hauled forum (ran from a single server) with a Multiple unit forum (ran on peer to peer technology) this may probide increased acceleration, but the forum may become less pleasant, and prone to vibration and noise whilst loading (acceleration)

might keep the spotters and cranks away
