I was on a GA 317/8 the other day, sitting in the pantograph coach. The ceiling was lower at the end of the vehicle with the pantograph, but it was also lower at the other end of the vehicle. It looked like it had been added in almost. Is this air conditioning?

This is defiantly not where the panto is coz the pillar with the wires in it was behind me at the time, and not in the photo. What is this? AFAIK /5s and /6s do not have this.

It houses the pressure ventilation system for the carriage. You'll find similar lowered roof sections on the 317/3s, 317/5s, 455/7s and 455/8s.

Is this in every carriage or just the panto carriage?
Thanks for the info :D
