Heald Green Station Ramp

Just seen on the local news that apparently the new ramp at Heald Green Station is still closed and is to remain so for the foreseeable future due to the fact that after it was built it was found that it was going to come in 6inches to low to the pavement, apparantly as a result the pavement is going to have to be lowered which Network Rail is going to pay to have done

Originally we got told it was due to an electric box needing to be moved, so the real reason is the contractors incompetence. Bet my bosses are not happy as well as quite a few wheelchair users who use heald green, not a good situation at all

Well wheelchair passengers are told to goto Manchester Airport and catch a train back to Heald Green as Manchester side has got adequate access either that or they can get a free taxi to their appropriate station

I often wonder if this is cheaper than installing a ramp / lifts etc!

Would have taken them 20 mins to do a temporary fix with a small bag of tarmac until a permanent solution was completed. All it needed was a wedge of tarmac at the top.

This huge expensive ramp being shut for 6 months deserves to see people sacked.

The solution recommended by Network Rail is for the pavement outside the station to be rebuilt and for Network Rail to fund that as the council aren't going to. The pavement being rebuilt will cost £5,000.

Oh dear - mentioning mothers with prams first and then showing a picture of an obese person in a mobility scooter - who can't take their scooter on Northern or TPE trains anyway!

As of tonight the ramp is now in full use (according to a message on my blackberry from our control) so wether you have a pram are overweight or disabled yadda yadda you can now use the platform
