Train on the motorway

My dad was telling me that there was traffic on the m5 motorway because of a abnormal load which turned out to be a train. Does anybody know which train it was

It was heading Northbound, just north of Taunton, as Steve Crump was delayed in it

I wouldnt blame the train on the motorway being slow. I headed north as far as m4 junction last saturday, and traffic was doing 30mph the whole way due to the high levels of tourists leaving the south west clogging up the m5

I had a hard time driving down the M5 heading towards Jct 8 where I intended to get onto the M50 and make my way back to Newport avoiding the Severn Bridge after completing a dleivery at my employers depot nr Derby.

Thanks to the volume of traffic it was hell and what should have taken me 3 hours took close to 4 hours so I didnt go back to the depot in Cardiff I went straight back home and parked my works truck outside my house.

unlikely, not on the M5 around Taunton.
More likely a move between Laira, and somewhere else

Isn't there a smashed-up HST power car at Laira currently/recently. Could be that?

Could then have been a Mk3 Move, as FGW has reccently had some of it's Mk3s moved around by road reccently - including one of the ex Buffets.

Nah wouldn't be an A stock, all but 4 have gone already.

Due to the lack of rails I'd imagine the tail back was due to the train in question moving from lane to lane erratically.

As others have said, the traffic would have absolubely not been caused by the train (even that abnormal load would still only take up one lane on the motorway) - there have been heavy delays of up to 2 hours around Taunton both on Friday and Saturday due to holiday traffic and a couple of accidents. From the sounds of it, it's almost certaintly a move from Laira to somewhere else, though of what we don't know.

Other traffic would have easily overtook a low loader with a rail vehicle. Not so long ago I got stuck behind an abnormal load, and this was truly just that, one of those ready built office cabin thingymebobs. I was driving a minibus and when it came time for me to overtake it I've never held on to the steering wheel so tight in my life, there was only a few inched clearance between the minibus I was driving and not only the cabin loaded on the truck but the central reservation. Brown trouser moment that was.

I followed a static caravan being moved down some cornish lanes at the start of summer, was rather a tight moment, with the caravan being only millimetres narrower than the lane in places. Was no hope of traffic coming towards passing, and the trucks escort vehicle must have gone ahead as all traffic was held about a mile down the road where there was room to pass

Yeah, you not heard of the governments initiative to get people out of their cars and travel by train, put it this way if I saw a train heading towards me on the motorway I'd certainly be the first to rapidly get out of my car.
Don't know about the climbing aboard the train bit though!

Inevitably, due to traffic congestion, the train carriage would indeed stop there.
