153314 is the odd man out as the last 153 not repainted/refurbished yet. any word on when it will be going.

I hope they start on the 156s very soon as they are dire both inside and out these days.

The coaches getting a repaint would be nice, although I will miss the little pictures of food that "one" put on the buffet car.

Only 4 FGE 321s left, thank god :)

153314 off to Wolverton after sports day.

156's to start when 314 returns I believe with 156402 to kick the refurb programme off.

Coaches, they're beyond me!

I'm off out with the man that knows what's going on, on Saturday so I'll do some digging!

321442/3/7 & 8 left to go. 448's refurb should be interesting (assuming that 448 is the last one to go...)

Is Greater Anglia actually doing anything to the interiors of the 153s then, or is it just a repaint and overhaul?

Seat covers are being "professionally laundered", new carpets, massive clean up, etched glass is being replaced, amongst other things.

So 153314 is going once the Olympics are over, or will they wait until after the Paralympics also?

Do you know if 156407/417/422 will keep the maps in their tables advertising the Suffolk and Norfolk branch lines, and if 156402 will keep it's advertising livery. 156419 is also in a form of GA livery already, but is quite tatty so I hope it gets a repaint, but then the 321s and 317s in this scheme aren't being repainted.

If you could do some digging that would be great :P
Are 170s/90s/Mk3s/DVTs getting repainted?

So far, GA's 153 and 321/4 refurbishments have been very good, so I am looking forward to what they do with the 156s.

Also, what is so special about 321448's refurb/repaint?

Might have to visit the area at this rate!

Past five years I haven't wanted to as I would have found it too depressing to see such great trains in such dire condition

The mk3 refurbishment will be a major undertaking with new seats installed unclear when it will start but talks have been ongoing.

Actual refurb rather than a C6 and clean - as hinted elsewhere on here expect it out of traffic for 6-12 months whilst Wabtec on behalf of the Rosco get to work on it as a pilot life extension set (see also 3177xx at IL)

Would it be possible to change the colour used on the SouthEastern wording on page 1?

Also does anybody know what the timescale is for completion of the class 91/DVT/mk4 repainting scheme as it seems to be taking a long time. Does anybody know if those in the silver livery will later be repainted in the grey livery? I forget how many were in the silver varient.

The 156's are being refurbished first (402 and 422 to go first). 153314 will be sent for overhaul in April 2014- when the 156's are done. 314 has enough miles left in it before its due an overhaul.

156407/417/422 not currently keeping their maps, but discussions in place to keep them.

402 is not keeping its advertising livery, neither is 419. All 156's to receive the same livery as the 153's- white with red doors.

170's/90's/Mk3's/DVT's not being repainted in this franchise. Will be done in the next GA franchise.

I hope they've got something good enough to remove the dirt on those Class 153 windows then! It must be 'caked' onto those windows now - How does Great Anglias cleaning regime compare to that of NX? Much better i hope!

Greater Anglia's cleaning regime is 1000x better than NXEA's ever was. On 153s and Mark 3 coaches (very dirty under NXEA) you can now see out of the windows without seeing brown. The 4 refurbished 153s are all very clean and 153314 isn't bad, as it recieved an exam under NXEA far more recently than the others (I assume).

Any idea what the 156407/417/422 refurb will consist of. I hope they get new seats as the seat shells and the seat covers are knackered and a clean will not fix them. The 156s are in a far worse state than the 153s were, aside from external cleanliness.

I do hope 07/17/22 keep their maps, as they are a lovely addition to the trains, although the liveries they are in are just dreadful. I found 156417 at Ipswich yesterday so I now have pictures of all 3 table maps :P. I assume 156402 will lose it's tables with pictures of shopping centre items on.

Before the 153s were refurbished, 153314 was by far the cleanest with the least damaged paintwork so it makes sense that it was the last one to receive an exam and a clean under NXEA. I was on it on Tuesday on the late night run to Bury St. Edmunds from Ipswich and it was clean inside (and I think outside too, although it was very dark) and it was nice to see the older style carpets again as they are more exciting, albeit dirtier.

170270 aside, all the 170s are fine now they have had a proper clean both inside and out and do not really need a repaint. I am still hoping against hope that 170270 is "unwrapped" like 360115 was as it's livery is vinyl (it still has an Anglia green roof, like an XC Voyager's red roof), unlike 3-car units 170201-170208. It looks dreadful and if it was unwrapped it would be in Anglia "Ghost" livery like fellow 2-car units 170271-170273.

I am glad the 90s/Mk3s/DVTs are not being repainted as I like them in their current liveries now they are clean, and the interiors are also much better as GA look after them properly. I am now very fond of the IC70 seats with their strange moquette, despite the lack of headrests :P. Also, the longer 90009 stays in it's current colour scheme the better :P. Was 10229 repainted as a trial, or did it have alot of paintwork damage or something like that? Any idea of it's current whereabouts as I haven't seen it about in service?

Are 156402 and 156422 going for a refurb together then? And when? What will GA do for cover while these are gone as 150280 has gone back to CDF; will we see LHCS with DRS locos out and about again (I hope so :P)?

Thank you so much for all this info, it's great :D

Greater Anglia are thinking about replacing the seats on the mk3s. The coach recently painted needed extra work and the others won't be repainted in till the refurbishment. Expect a major mk3 refurbishment soon... looks like GA want to keep the coaches

Not till the next franchise though eh?

I wouldn't have thought so.

if the mark 3s are to stay on the line under the next franchise (rather than being replaced with EMUs), I'd really like to see a "proper" refurbishment done- replacement seats, powered doors (Chiltern-style) and additional carriages (surely still some redundant buffets/buy from one of the charter companies that has mark 3s) to bring all the rakes to nine passenger vehicles, with all having identical seating layouts.

NX put 3 or 4 Mk3's into storage at Long Marston. I don't quite know why or which ones they were (I do know they were standard class ones- not sure on carriage numbers although I'll try and find out).

Presumably 12063, 12065, 12092 & 12139 moved to Long Marston in February 2010 http://www.petertandy.co.uk/37194_5Z22_Ald_020210.jpg 12139 was later given a light overhaul and revinyled white by NXEA returning to service earlier this year.

To kick off the Greater Anglia 156 overhaul/refirb, step forward 156402, currently at Wolverton having its Chapelfield vinyls removed.

This will be followed (early next year!) with 156422, then 156407. 156417 will be the last unit to be done, then 153314 can have a lick of paint too (by which time we should be motoring through 2014).

Why the long wait for 156422? Any word on whether 156422/156407/156417 will be keeping the wonderful little maps in their tables, as they are one of the best things NXEA/ONE did. Is there any reason 153314 is still in mangy ONE colours and not smart GA red & white?

Thank you very much for the info :D

I'm sure I've already said this somewhere else, the 'wonderful little maps' are going. New tables are being put in. All the 156's are being repainted into plain white with red doors.

As already stated, the 153 programme did overrun with 153306 taking much longer than it should have done.

156422 is waiting so long to go, as, already stated, 156402 is not expected to be back before the end of the year and the Crown Point DMU fleet is already incredibly tightly diagrammed as it is and they cannot afford to have more than one unit away at a time.

Yeah sorry, last time you said their were talks in place to try and save the table maps, but evidently these didn't come off.

Thanks for the info :D
