The answer I was looking for was Menston. On reflection, I suspect this was a poor set of clues as it could have been one of 4 (Frizinghall, Menston, Guiseley and Burley in Wharfedale). I appologise for this, and suggest Martin takes the floor as he went for one of the possible four.

Clue 5 : although NR trans terminate here, a preserved line runs through one of the other platforms (station originally had 4 platforms) without stopping

Off to bed now, I'll leave you to think about this one overnight ...

I only saw the clue 15 minutes ago, I am still thinking and will do so during my afternoon walk.

Let's punt at Barry Island, Baker's shows the preserved line as using a different shack (Plymouth Road), but I'm sure it must go fairly close to the BR shack when it comes off the causeway.

Barry Island has 2 platforms.

Barry Island is the answer I was looking for.

AFAIK it only has one platform - will check my photos (from last year) and track atlas

Incidentally I think Aberystwyth has 2 platforms ?

Note to self: Must stop treating Wikipedia as the ultimate authority on these matters

(I just checked NRE and they give it as just 1 platform...)

Clue 2:
This station is served by preciseley 1 TOC, although charter trains do occasionally visit.
