Possible 442 special this Saturday (3rd Feb)??

"Seems there is a 442 Farewell 'Special' in the offing for next Saturday 3rd February. There should be a 10 car up from Poole which will split at Waterloo with the rear half doing an 11.32 to Windsor, Windsor-Staines up Goods, Staines U G-Twickenham, reverse, Twickers-Shepperton, Shepperton-Waterloo (not sure if via Twickers or Kingston). Unit will then attatch and go 18.35 Waterloo-Weymouth, split at Bournemouth, front 5 to Weymouth then 23.10 Weymouth-Bournemouth" from 56056 Clag Monster on wnxx

I hope this does go ahead as there's nowt else happening on Saturday 3rd, but I'm busy on Saturday 10th/17th/24th and most other foreseeable Saturdays photting tours etc.

I will be on this; will a Capital Card be sufficient ticketing to legally travel on this service, but on the 13th Jan I wasn't checked anyway... or should I not say that?

Not sure. There is no 11:32 Windsor service so it is not a normal passenger train. Also, one staff member on another forum believes it is probably a staff thing, like the first Thumper and Seaside/Sussex Slammer slam-door services

Do you mean travelcard? I doubt it.

It could be like SET's Flush D'Or which was only £10 for an amazing amount of mileage. It was so cheap because it was not advertised as a railtour or passenger train, therefore it did not incur track access charges. Word-of-mouth and 'gen' sites were the only way people found out about it. I have to say it remains the best value tour I've ever known.

I really miss those Slam door farewell trips we had, and it's hard to believe the very last one was over a year ago now

Yer, in an ideal world SWT would get 3417 & one of the Lymos and run the odd Slammer trip once or twice a year, it would certainly pull in the revenue; especially if a 73 was used too. Although I doubt if this can be done now due to the safety stuff...

I dunno about Staines - Windsor & Eton Riverside; but Byfleet & New Haw - Clapham Junction via Virginia Water / Richmond is definately usable by C3s; 444s & 442s ran along there last year sometime. I can't see why W&ER would be any different; built at a similar time?

Built at a similar time yes but remember we're talking late 1800s/early 1900s so C1 and C3 restrictions would not have existed

Can anyone give the times of this special because if it turns around at Twickenham and goes to shepperton from there its got to stop at every station along the route accept Upper-Halliford and Kempton Park

I have to agree with the others, Waterloo arent giving out timings!

I got a text from a friend in control at Waterloo saying that it might not even be running!

We willall find out at the same time!
