Dunno what the attraction is really, the whole idea of modelling is because you cant play with the real thing isnt it? Im pretty sure you can get to Swanage easily Steven to play with REAL trains?
several reasons why I like miniature railways over the full size:
1. On a miniature railway I can do what I flaming please and annoy the purists, and if they complain, they can be ushered politely away (or told to naff off) with the explanation that its my loco, and it doesn't have to have the correct dimensions or stock behind it because its mine, so tough luck.
2. Can you pick up a 12 inch to the foot loco? My locos may be a two man lift but I still don't need a crane to lift them!
3. I have a 7 1/4" black 5 down my road that I can walk to on a Sunday. Just last week I was scraping the mildew off the tender wheels.
4. Its cheaper, inherently cheaper, although good gel batteries are expensive these days, and farmers don't take kindly to you stealing their old tractors Atco dynamo!
5. I can pass myself out on my own loco "snaps fingers" just like that!
6. I find it more fun (I don't see it as modelling, my tram I did as a small narrow gauge loco, it just looks like a Toby to run at the GCR) although I still love occasional thrash on the full size (Swanage and West Somerset being my all time favourite railways!)
7. I don't have to collaborate with a fireman when I drive a steamer, so I know that I'm ok for steam (usually!)
8. The locos at the GCR are the real thing, they just happen to be single crewed and a lot smaller! They still need the respect and skill the full size need, the only downside being you have to build the things! I would join a full size railway, but I'm in a happy little rut and I'm not about to hoist myself out!

that would make no difference to the response time of the controller (in theory!) the loco just would run down quicker and strain at the load a bit (in theory!!)
running battery locos is dirt cheap when they work alright!
So ok for steam then, what about the time that i was about to take over the engine and u had run out of steam and water in the boiler, Please dont make a presonse to that comment as yes i know ive run out of steam 3 times in one day, was having a bad day!!!
My attraction, just so happens to be a certain green engine that my dad purchansed over a year ago now!!!! Also the bubble car wen it is finished will be possitivly amazing!

it was only 50psi, not completely dead like I did recently.....
I'm pretty sure there was water in there somewhere!

Miniature railways are fun - the one at the GCR is a bit boring after a while, but it's a decent attraction for visitors to come and have a look at.

Wrong GCR! We have a miniature railway at Rothley on the big GCR - more of a model thing than miniature though
