What a day this is turning out to be....Unusual bus services, heritage railway rides and now a ferry, so to keep in the spirit of the day, we board the 1430 ferry to the jetty at Ambleside that arrives there, as per the timetable, at 1500 on Wednesday afternoon.

Tea and cakes in Keswick are always welcome, when time needs to pass by, which it does well enough for us to board the 1702 Stagecoach in Cumbria service X50 to the coast at Workington which arrives at the town bus station at 1807 on Wednesday afternoon.

Coniston is always worth wondering around, absorbing its ambiance, and this we do for some time before boarding the 1111 Stagecoach in Cumbria service 505 to Ambleside (Kelsick Road) that arrives there at 1145 on Wednesday morning.

Well then we can do the whole trip from Ambleside - steamers - train -bus - in reverse and still land up on the same bus out of Ambleside to Keswick in the afternoon. Shall we go through that charade or let things be?

Since we are the only two contributors on this particular section, I am more than happy to accede to your request and the reverse routing which, as you quite rightly say, still allows access to the same bus from Ambleside to Keswick.

My view is that we should now carry on from where the last journey ended at Dumfries

At such a late hour, we find a small hotel where we register for an overnight stay and request a very early alarm call as we have decided that the variation of the previous day can continue by the use of a long coach ride, so we return to the area and board the 0558 National Express service 588 service to Inverness Bus Station that arrives at 1135 on Thursday morning.
