I remeber I hit established member in about July... and August - at that time the barrier was 590; shortly after I first reached it posts in the quiz threads were discounted so it took me a month before I broke the threshold once again.

I wonder if I'll reach 1500 posts by the time it gets to the 20th March...

Seems to me its a bit like saving up for a tv with green shield stamps used to be - you got to within 100 books and then the price went up by 200 books.

At least I can now resign myself to the fact that I'll never get there.

If it does, we'll just delete the thread and you'll all be demoted to "Member" so play nicely :D

I'm more concerned about quality of posts than quantity of posts. I've been on other sites where people would post rubbish just to increase their post count.

That's exactly why we don't publish it, as people will deliberately post crap to reach the target.

That date has passed with your wishes still unfulfilled....but you have the consolation of knowing that you are now one of the "Quiz Forum Quizmaster Triumvirate". Everything does eventually come to pass (very biblical)...even for those who live in Droitwich Spa...:D:D

At least I didn't spam post in order to reach it. ;)

Well said... your postings are always worth reading. The decision to discount all the posts in the Quiz Forum from the posting figures under a members username, where a single word answer can suffice, was an excellent decision taken by the forum, which did leave some forum members in a shocked sense of disbelief when that decision was announced. I believe, though, that these quiz forum posting figures are still counted in the 4-column published totals of the "Top Posters" chart.

I don`t understand why there is any excitement about passing a certain number to have a new member title.
Is it a competition to get as many posts as possible ?

Maybe this thread should be left to drift off the bottom as the other one has?

We had this (or at least very similar) lengthly discussion when the old ranks were removed.

But basically I agree with newbie babs do people feel more important if they have more posts than someone else or is it something else?

This is correct. On occasion it can be alarming to see your name plastered around the first three columns, only to see very little physical "return" for this work. Having said that though, effective and persistent quiz forum regulars, such as Paul and myself, can also regularly be found contributing elsewhere, so in this sense those columns aren't all that important. I wonder if there may be a case for eliminating the Quiz forum from those three as well? I know that regularly clicking on New Posts and seeing nothing but Quiz Forum can be annoying sometimes, but it would at least allow regulars to not need to worry about posting too often in such threads. After all, in any 24-hour period, it is rare for people to go post more than 20 or so posts not including the Quiz Forum; is such a total really anything to worry about? By contrast, it would also give a more realistic outlook on forum activity, allowing us all a chance to see who has contributed what in any given period without needing to consider the most recent person to have posted something like "Euston?" and nothing else...

To give an example, including the Quiz Forum I am on something like 9,000 posts. For a 27-month stint that has included two long periods of absence, that is unusually high - but considering roughly half of those have been in Quiz threads, is it really that massive? If the absences totalled 300 days (a genuine estimate), it works out at something like eight posts per day - a fairly high number, but not exactly notable.

We had this (or at least very similar) lengthly discussion when the old ranks were removed.

That'll be this one ;)

I didn`t know that the quiz posts contributed to the overall posts total, seems a bit odd as they are quiz posts and just for fun and not informative or engaging in discussion.

It only counts here, the numbers here (also displayed next to your posts) aren't inclusive, and they are the official ones.

Thanks MattE2010

I never knew the second one existed, I didn`t think anyone really kept an eye on how many postings they did.
