We decide to try out the Bathgate-Airdrie line so catch the 11:21 Scotrail service to Glasgow Queen Street (Low Level) arriving at 12:40 on Monday afternoon.

We take time to have a snack, before boarding the 1324 First Scotrail service to Dalmuir that arrives at 1347 on Monday afternoon.

We get the First Glasgow 66 bus from Parkhall at 1355 and travel to Anniesland Cross Great Western Road, ariving at 1427, Monday afternoon

Only a few minutes to wait before we board the First Glasgow service 20 to Glasgow (after West Regent Street...on Renfield Street) that arrives there at 1459 on Monday afternoon.

Time enough to cross over to the branch line platform and board the 1749 First TPE service to Staveley which arrives at the small station at 1802 on Monday evening.

If (as I think it is) it's Bank Holiday Easter Monday, we catch the 1843 Stagecoach 555 last bus of the day from Abbey Square to Kendal Bus Stn, arriving at 1855

That last journey terminated there, but there is still an onward service 555 that commences from stand "E" at that bus station that commences its journey from there, according to a very helpful bus inspector, so we board the 1903 Stagecoach in Cumbria service 555 to Slyne-with-Hest (Slyne Lodge) which arrives there at 1959 on Monday evening.

Um we can't get back on the bus we've just got off, which would be the case if the 1903 was running. It's come from Keswick. There can't be two of them at the same time.

I wondered if you would query my posting, but I "triple-checked" the correctness before I posted it, just to make sure.

We are still at Slyne-with-Hest where my last journey ended.

So be it. Odd that there are two 555 buses fom Keswick within minutes of each other, one terminating at Kendal and the other continuing to Lancaster. Still there have been odder things.

We take a short walk to Manor Lane and catch the Stagecoach 55 service at 2007 to Lancaster City Centre (Waring and Gillow) arriving at 2019 Monday evening. This one runs whether it's a Bank Holiday or not

I have checked again on the 555 query...this time using the timetable facility that is on Traveline Northwest. It shows two separate columns on the 555 service, with one column terminating at Kendal at 1855 and the other service commencing at Kendal at 1903, details of both separate journeys as follows:-
1625 ex Keswick terminates at Kendal at 1855
1903 ex Kendal terminates at Lancaster at 2009

It may well be something to do with the rostering of two different drivers, owing to the hours of the day involved. I have also spoken to Stagecoach in Cumbria on the telephone, explaining how two separate journeys are shown on Traveline Northwest, but all that they would say is it is not their policy to discuss internal scheduling matters with a member of the travelling public.

We stare wistfully at the cars through the showroom glass for 20 minutes, wishing we had use of one, and catch the next 2A at 2106 to Heysham Towers, arriving at 2119, Monday evening

An excellant piece of timetable planning enables us to wait no more than 5 minutes for our onward journey and we board the 2124 Stagecoach in Lancaster service 5 to Overton (Memorial Hall) that arrives at that terminus at 2134 on Monday evening.

We explore for 10 minutes or so and then realise that we're not going much further this evening, so we wait for the last 5 bus at 2240 back to Morecambe bus station , arriving at 2309, Monday, to try to find somewhere for the night.

Indeed we were much in need of somewhere to rest after such a day and we book into a friendly B & B and ask for an early alarm call to enable us to make a short rail journey, so suitably refreshed, we make our way to the railway station and board the 0619 Northern service to Lancaster that arrives at 0630 on Tuesday morning.

We continue our journey on the Stagecoach 42 bus, leaving Lancaster Bus station at 0712 and arriving in Blackpool Abingdon Street at 0839, Tuesday morning

Ignoring the obvious attraction of the tramway and the train services available, we decide to continue our onward journey by bus, to allow us to see more of the Fylde hinterland and board the 0908 Cumfy Coaches service 75 to Newton-with-Scales (Bell and Bottle) that arrives there at 1011 on Tuesday morning.

We decide our next journey will be to a bus station with many destinations served from it, so we board the 1029 Stagecoach in Lancashire service 68 to Preston bus station that arrives there at 1052 on Tuesday morning.

I was having a day of many "Senior Moments" yesterday and my wife had been talking about Blubberhouses when she was stuck behind a tractor pulling a trailer full of hay bales on her journey from Harrogate to Skipton..:cry:...(Posting now amended)

We decide to have a good break of journey and to have afternoon tea then to explore the area, before returning back to the railway station, suitably replenished in mind and body, where we board the 1757 Northern service to Carnforth that arrives there at 1829 on Tuesday afternoon.

Another bus journey beckons us and we walk from the railway station to the bus stop on Victoria Road where we board the 1922 Stagecoach in Cumbria service X35 that arrives at Kendal (Burton Road..near the Westmorland General Hospital) at 2015 on Tuesday evening.

We are going to be in need of hospital treatment for exhaustion after these particular journeys we have made in the last 48 hours...

The hospital keeps us in for observation overnight, and having decided that care in the community is cheaper than sectioning us, kicks us out next morning.
