I just passed Ilford depot on the way back to Wickford and noticed a class 321 with red doors sitting there. I also noticed that two carriages of the last remaining 317 being stored near ilford have been completely covered in graffiti. <(

Will all the 317/7s move to Eastleigh soon?

Are GA not keeping one or two on a spot hire basis like SOU and the 460s then?

Nope, not that I'm aware of. 710 was kept back initially because 511 wasn't quite there, but apart from running on half power, she's not a bad unit now.
GA reckon they can run the show without the 317/7's now that all the long term dud units are all back in traffic- so with those back, all that's been lost is effectively 2 units.
It is also worth noting that the 317/7's are the most expensive EMU that NX had.

did they cost more per unit to hire than the other 317s, or more expensive on £/seat?

This is why I like Greater Anglia. They are doing sensible things so make everyone's life easier. Returning all the dead units to service and removing a non-standard sub fleet that was deeply unsuited to it's job was a good thing to do. They are saving themselves money and spending it on train cleaning. They are cleaning units very nicely, all the 170s I have seen look very smart. Their customer service is much better than NXEA also. Staff seem happier under GA than NXEA, although quite a few were stilling wearing NX shirts. Well done GA, you are a welcome addition to ATOC and far better than NXEA.

It's a pity though that they're going into store, rather than being sent to be refurbished, reconfigured to a more suitable layout and then rotated back into traffic to allow the other 317s to also be worked on- I rather hope that the long-term franchisee does this.

I think NT will end up with them tbh in addition to the 319s for the TP electrification. It is a pity that they are not being reconfigured but it would cost alot of money to remove some of the 1st class and the tables and put in alot of new seats, and the inter-carriage doors need fixing also because they are midway between annoying and dangerous. They are nice units, but are flawed. I prefer /6s and /8s to them.

I went past Doncaster on Sunday and noted a 320 in Saltaire livery. Anyone know which one this was?

From scot-rail.co.uk:

"The Class 320's began receiving overhauls at Doncaster Wabtec in February 2011. The first unit, 320314 was moved by GBRf under it's own power between Shields Depot and Doncaster via the ECML, and took just over 4 months to complete".

Sunday was the 15th, and #320313 supposedly left on Friday 13th [may have been delayed].

Unit Number Arrived Doncaster Wabtec Departed Doncaster Wabtec
320314 14/02/11 06/06/11
320315 26/05/11 02/08/11
320306 03/08/11 21/09/11
320302 24/09/11 08/11/11
320304 08/11/11 15/12/11

Cheers for that but according to a photo on Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/68191052@N06/7074395221/) it did make the move back on the 13th. I defiantly saw a 320 in Saltaire livery at Doncaster :|

Andrew Chambers on his photo site notes southeastern 465014 going into Wolverton as the last 465 to be reliveried.

I cannot find any photographs or references to 465 021 going to Wolverton. Can anyone confirm it has been treated or is at Wolverton now.
