That last bus did really well taking us to the railway station, which allows us to enter the railway station and look for a fast train to London and we have time for a hot drink before we board the 0822 Southeastern service to London St Pancras International that arrives there at 0843 on Monday morning.

We catch the 0915 EMT departure to East Midlands Parkway, arriving 1045 Monday morning.

We are fortunate not to have to wait too long for our onward connection and we board the 1054 EMT service to Newark Castle that arrives there at 1156 on Monday morning.

Rather than walk to the bus station, we wait at the station approach for the 1220 Stagecoach 28 bus to arrive and take it to Mansfield bus station, arriving at 1340 Monday

We decide to spend no more time in Mansfield than is necessary, so we get on to the 13:50 'Pronto' Trent Barton bus to Chesterfield, arriving at 14:35.

At the bus station approach, we board the 1505 Hulleys of Baslow service 170 to Bakewell (Rutland Square) that arrives there at 1550 on Monday afternoon

We continue on the Transpeak service at 1559 to Buxton (outside station) arriving at 1629, Monday

So one fool has got from Bakewell to Buxton in half an hour despite closure of the railway that was designed to facilitate this

Only four minutes to wait at the same bus stop outside the railway station before we board the "all stops" 1633 Trent Barton service 199 to Manchester Airport bus station that arrives there at 1810 on Monday afternoon.

General note : As from next week, both the TransPeak and the 199 route will be operated by the newly-formed High Peak company (formed by an amalgamation of Bowers and the northern part of Trent Barton)

Just 20 minutes to wait until we board the 0854 Stagecoach in Cumbria service 300 that arrives in Carlisle bus station at 1000 on Tuesday morning.

We have time for a light meal and a hot drink before returning to the bus stop to board the 1735 Classic Coaches service 352 to Tudhoe (Post Office) that arrives there at 1854 on Tuesday evening.

It is the one near to Durham, as you rightly say, and it is shown by Traveline Northwest, but I feel that I may have used the wrong search criteria, so I will "strike-through" my last posting.

A puzzle indeed.....Anyhow we catch the 1908 Northern train to Kirkby Stephen arriving 1952 Tuesday evening.

It may have been the bracing Cumbrian air in early April, or the rail and bus journeys.....or a combination of both, but tiredness comes over us, so we book into a hotel and have an excellent meal in their restaurant and reminding reception to give us an early morning alarm call and we have a really good nights sleep, then a very early-morning "full Cumbrian" breakfast, before returning to the railway station to board the 0648 Northern service to Leeds that arrives there at 0837 on Wednesday morning.

Time to head south

We get the 0911 XC departure and head though to Taunton, arriving at 1318 Wednesday afternoon

Taunton is an interesting place to see and we need to stretch our legs after that long rail journey and we eventually arrive back at the railway station bridge where we board the 1512 First in Bristol service 29 to Glastonbury Town Hall that arrives at 1610 on Wednesday afternoon.

Assuming the chilblains are on holiday, we catch the 1654 377 bus (First) to Yeovil Bus station, arriving 1810 Wednesday afternoon. (1649 on schooldays so makes no real difference other than the comfort of the ride)

My next journey has come from planning a journey on the Closed Stations Journey quiz, which made me learn more about Chard as a settlement and its surrounding area.

We have time for a refreshing hot drink before we board the 1852 Stagecoach South West service 99A to Chard (Boden Street) that arrives there at 1950 on Wednesday evening.

Once again we are stuck in Hicksville with no onward transport so we again have an indoor night with proper meals and have a lie in - well a little one anyway - and catch the 0814 First 30 bus to Axminster Railway station, arriving at 0843 Thursday morning
