Still wouldn't take anything they say for gospel. Looking at his profile picture, he looks like standard veg. Only at the start of this year, when the person was hit near Felling, there were reports that the train had derailed, after someone on YouTube/FB started spreading rumours.

Been on 4041 (refurb) this afternoon where I told a chav to get his feet off the seats. There are no visible notices about feet on seats. The only notices are 1 inch paragraph on the notice stickers near the doors!! Why didn’t they just install the old seats? How thick are people to put their feet up on seats on public transport?? It makes my blood boil!!

Yeah it really annoys me too. Its not always Chavers too. At work I've given up telling people because all you get is abuse or looked at as if you are stupid.

Last week, I took a couple of journeys on Merseyrail Electrics. There were big posters in each carriage saying that feedback from customers was this was one of the things that annoyed them the most. So ME were cracking down in it and warning that they would film transgressors and prosecute them under the bye-laws... whether they put their feet on cushions or the chair framework.

And on my journeys, I didn't see a single person put their feet on the seats... which was a welcome change from the Metro.

Last time I was on Merseyside I did see someone get pulled up about it, cautioned and details taken. There was a case where a judge threw out a prosecution and it made the papers, but I hope they are still persuing people about it.

Anybody who wants to get the Prudhoe Street crossover in is in luck on Saturday 31st March and Sunday 1st April (both between 7am and 7pm) as there is no service between South Gosforth and Haymarket. Maybe this is why the arrows have been put under the door monitor screens.

It doesn't look like a refurbished unit has come the other way this time though.

The refurbished unit that was supose to come up but had problems with the brakes dragging along the tracks, Will be a few weeks before another movement can happen due to the residents get 7 days notice.

That's what I first thought when it was mentioned a while back. The crossover was used last year but going from Monument to Haymarket, so will be going the opposite way on the 31st/1st. Will be interesting to see what happens at South Gosforth as well.

Just simply terminate the train at P2 and the driver goes to the back of the train and use the points just before the station to head back to Shields. Seen that occuring when there was disruption quite a while back, don't see why they can't do that again aslong its all planned to timetable so no South Hylton trains get held up.

Silly me, never read your message properly! I thought you meant when the service is suspended midweek between Gosforth and Benton.

I think they will do pretty much what you said then regarding in the siding then using the crossover points, I read the ITA files and it seems the actual work will be around Jesmond-West Jesmond area but because there are no turning back points then trains have to stop at South Gosforth.

Into the siding and out again will be the easiest option - doing it any other way would need special signalling requirements for wrong-line running.

That could possibly be the one that was due back a week or so ago, Had problems with it so it didn't come up. Yeah it should be the next one comming back if they got the problem fixed.

Nexus have said on their forum that the door tone will be replaced with a reduced volume as soon as new parts are delivered.

South Gosforth - Benton has been shut after 9pm this week, not sure how they're terminating at either end. Might be an excuse to go to the Benton Ale House tonight.

Trains for the Coast are running to Regent Centre and terminating there.

Today I've noticed new speed restrictions at Regent Centre. On the signal at Platform 1 there's a 30kmh sign on a yellow background. The restriction seems to end at a black T on a yellow sign just a couple of meters ahead as you pass the walkway on the depot siding.

Anyone know why this is in place? I don't know if this is in one direction only but I'll find that out in the morning.

See 4010 has been patched up, though a different tone of red to the rest of the carriage, it's a damn site better than before.

Today I've noticed new speed restrictions at Regent Centre. On the signal at Platform 1 there's a 30kmh sign on a yellow background. The restriction seems to end at a black T on a yellow sign just a couple of meters ahead as you pass the walkway on the depot siding.

Perhaps something wrong with the points I'll assume? Faster the train goes over them and bearing in mind how many trains a day goes over them then the likelyhood of them being damaged increases. Of course, it could also be a track problem but be interesting how long its there for.

I also noticed 4010 being patched up, with what looks like vinyl as appears to be the norm these days whenever there is damage to the metrocars. Only one graffiti attack away before that vinyl gets smudged again. Although I understand the metrocars are going for refurbishment soon enough, you would think with all that money around, they could use paint when we all know that vinyl just gets damaged when washing graffiti off.

Be interesting what will be used if any of the refurbished cars suffers an etching attack on the sides of the metrocars.

Was in Benton last night and trains from the Coast were terminating in platform 1, going into the sidings, reversing into platform 2 and back out towards the Coast.

The two battery locos are needed in that formation as the refurbed unit has to be treated as unbraked, until it gets commissioned apparently.

They were gone the next morning so I'm assuming whatever it was was fixed overnight.

They have been putting in new sleepers at certain points on the system (if you look they are the ones with the orange metal strip on). Looks to be an overnight job as they've been added at stations which haven't seen engineering work in a while (e.g. Gateshead Stadium).

On the subject of refurbished metrocars interiors, I been thinking if there could be a problem with glare from brighter lighting and the white panels of the interior in low sunlight in particular. I only been on the refurbished cars twice and both occasions have been when it was dark outside so I'm wondering if theres any risk to vulnable passengers who may get nauseous quite easily.

Also when will the next pairing be out in service? So many trains seem out of service at the moment due to these refurbishments, much be very close in terms of demand for during the day.

No idea really, although when I passed Doncaster the other day I did see a refurbed one that looked ready to come back. Might be waiting for that one.

Its probably to do with the limited space in the tunnels if you also have a look on the approach to st james on the in line they also have white numbers displaying the platform instead of feathers.

The Metro will be running in the wrong direction, so there should be special signalling requirements (normally the use of a shunt ground signal). The signal is the same for a wrong-direction move from Monument to Haymarket.

St James also has a ground position signal to allow trains into the platform.

It is Nexus policy to show the usual destination during disruption to stop people letting trains pass in the hope that a Airport/St James train will turn up.
