15724 heading to VOSA Lillyhall this morning

I've just got back from an overnight trip over in Newcastle and I was unlucky enough to have 24118 all the way to newcastle, its screeched badly at anything over 40 mph, and rattled like hell.. I was glad to finally get off tbh..
Luckily I returned on 52629 which was a lovely smooth journey

well thats strange... literally 3 hours ago I was riding on 24122 on the 104 back to Penrith the 18:50 departure to be precise.. and 16336 was on the 554
must have had a busy day that one.

Had Enviros to Hexham quite often and enjoy the ride. They are ideal for the 685 they are working!

16336 was on the 38 but got pulled for the 91 school contract and then 554 as you saw. 24122 was replaced by 16336 as above to release it back onto the 104.

Just came up in conversation with someone on Flickr that while they were in the Lakes and surrounding area (last week) they managed to see/photograph all of the Kendal's Freedom Lakes Scanias other than 15723. He never seen her on the road the whole time nor she wasn't in Kendal depot either, havent heard of it being anywhere else nor being up at Scania, well it could be.... Any other ideas guys?

I was on 15723 between Kendal and Keswick last night
20219 must have come back from reserve at Kendal because it was on 551/2 yesterday morning, info bus 40011 was also in the bus station at about 9am
with 47018 operating 555 shuttles due to the huge roadworks going on at the plumgarths roundabout, I went down to Barrow aswell and passed 52030 driver trainer near Grange over sands and then again in ulverston, weirdly in Barrow I saw 52414, a different driver trainer which I'm sure is usually allocated in Carlisle?

Can anyone confirm that I saw a B10M on the 104 today, arriving in Carlisle at about 1300 hours, or am I just hallucinating again?

I note that Reays have two more Enviro 200s in service, PX12BSY/Z.

Departed Lancaster Bus Station this evening on 17023 to a beautiful black plume of exhaust smoke in reverse! I wouldn't say the light went out but there are some Daffodils on Cable Street that'll never be yellow again!

After a pleasant afternoon out in Kirkby Lonsdale - a nice top deck ride back into the sunset (nearly) in 16660 - Always a pleasure, the unhurried nature of the Olympians.

Does anyone know anything about the changes to the 76 in Carlisle which are supposed to have happened today, according to N & P for 3rd February? I see no information on the Stagecoach website.

16331 and 16447 are the worst as they have cummins engines and the amount of smoke that comes out of them when moving them is unbelievable, the R reg volvos are ok.

The DT Coaches can often been seen at other depots. When I passed Carlisle depot early yesterday morning there was a Coach parked down the side near the Chassis wash which is not normally where the DT would park so its possible it was 52414 having just returned or Barrows.

Of note are:

19 Hybrids for Stagecoach Sheffield
15 vehicles for Rotala Preston & Bristol
2 Vehicles for Reays...

I've usually only seen a good "clagging" after a bit of a rev up. This was quite a low rev reverse.

Years ago the driver of a Bedford Viceroy Coach that brought the kids to my school used to entertain them by telling them to go stand at the back "to check something" whilst he cleared the Bedfords "throat".

As a general rule of thumb;

Blue smoke - oil in the combustion chamber - replace piston rings
Black smoke - overfuelling - replace injectors
White smoke - unburned diesel vapour - engine wayy too cold and possibly overfuelled.

Obviously overfuelling can occur at any revs, though it tends to start at the top of the power band and work downwards....

The tragic accident on the M5 this morning resulting in 1 fatality involved ex Barrow 20780 STILL in Laurel & Hardy livery.

Out of interest, why are one-off liveries always "in association with Stagecoach North West" rather than the usual fleet name for wherever it is?

Because the branding is specified/designed/paid for by the customer - e.g Lancaster City Council for 18362. Stagecoach only provide the vehicle, so it's polite/required to state that the advert is 'in association with...' as its a goodwill gesture on Stagecoach's part.

Sliding off topic, this video shows white vs black smoke rather well;

The white is unburned fuel vapour caused by the low temperature and poor compression ratio of English Electric engines.
The black you'll see from around 2:06 onwards as cylinders actually start to fire, and is caused by poorly vapourised (ie, large droplets) fuel not burning completely.
Oh, and the reason it idles so 'off centre' (ie. revving up and then down) is because of low air pressure in the pneumatic fuel rack - it straightens out as the engine warms and air pressure builds up

Why does 22754 have a different emergency door from the rest of the batch? It seems to have one with a curve to the bottom of the window (like the window to the rear of it) wheras all the others i saw today have a straight bottom. (Pics not mine)

I'm sure i've seen this with a standard door recently. Is the odd door still around on a different bus? I've been keeping an eye out but not seen it

Probably 21007 as that is still in service or if it was panelled up it could of been 21005 going upto carlisle for repaint ready for the reserve fleet to come back into service when the E300s go to london.

Chorley based solo 47021 is currently working a 113 Preston - Wigan service. Its ether transferred back to Preston or its come up to Preston for maintenance and will return to Chorley (like 47484 & 47485 did a while back).
