It seems that the Fawley service is on the back burner yet again...though I have have misread local press comments. With one train first thing running to Totton to reverse as before surely it would be easier to run Fawley-Romsey and back and have a Salisbury-Southampton and use the bay?

Marchwood would be easy to reopen, as would be Hythe as the site is still there, but where could a new station for Fawley be located? I understand that the old Fawley station is right in the middle of the oil refinery.

I was at Bournemouth today, Platform 1's rails are so rusty must be several years since anything went on them.

I found the 450 'rusty rail' move in the Feb - May 2007 CWNs:

2W66 1759 Wareham to Bournemouth arr 1826
this then formed 5W66 18+29 Platform 2 to Platform 1 arr 18+37
which then formed 5B78 20+43 to Southampton Up Goods

I think it is probable that it ended with the Dec 2007 timetable change, as that removed the Brockenhurst-Wareham shuttles as part of the enhanced Weymouth service.

I'm fairly certain that while passing through in the other direction I saw a Weymouth train in Platform 4 at Bournemouth the other day, either that or it had just stopped by the platform... this was mid-morning on Tuesday. My assumption was that, as there was an XC train in Platform 3 at the same time (possibly just entered, but stopped), something had gone a bit skewed with the timetable...

it's used for stabling stock from time to time, so they may well have parked something there. Alternatively, perhaps the Weymouth train was late and the XC one was right behind it so they decided to move it down the platform to avoid holding it up.

That was my thought :) Wouldn't have made anything of it if it wasn't for this thread though

(also finding the idea of a train being 'parked' quite amusing for some reason...)
