To change the timetable would include altering all the trains that connect/would get in the way of/would need to overtake said train, as well as re-timing a load of freight that would use the line around that time to fit around the timetable change which is ran by another operator, and then that freights times would need altering when it reaches another main line/ their services on the other main line would need altering to accommodate the new times the freight would reach their line say the WCML via the NLL where there may be no available slot for it... huge can of worms opened, just by truing to re-timetable one service... worth it? nope.

My lack of knowledge obviously shows here . Didn't realise it had so much of a knock on effect.

In response to SprinterMan, we never had Class 317 trains operating the 07:40. Only for 2 weeks max replacing the 07:40 whilst the 321 disappeared for repair works before Christmas. We had a 12-car 321 as always for the 07:40 service. Is it that other services that used the 317 have now gained an 8-car 321 from 4-car 321s taken off busier 12-car services?

Just a mix of cracked windscreen on one, low coolant on another & infrastructure probs causing late running on the Thetford route & substitution with another unit to allow a right time start.

Thanks for that, not seen a single 153 substituting on the Cambridge run since last May.

Also, do you know how work is progressing on the Beccles loop please?

Very quiet on the Beccles front. All i know is that the aspitartion is for the December timetable change. It was mentioned a few weeks ago that unit capacity will be stretched further as the current surplus 153 will be utilised for the diagram changes involved with an hourly East Suffolk service.

Yes, a 321 was taken off your train (0740) to work a former 317/7 service.

Perhaps National Express' failure to invest was connected to losing East Coast and the financial burden this created. This was after all 2009 and the rebrand took place in 2008 hence why people might think the service declined after the rebrand... although a report has just come out revealing profits are strong across the coach and rail division

Anyway here is a video I saw of a very run down looking class 321 sounding sick:

Bloody hell! The FCC 321s are clean, quiet and smooth. Even though some people may not like the 3+2 seating, they're good trains overall.

Maybe GA should send some over to Hornsey for some TLC?!

Agreed, they certainly need some TLC and maybe Hornsey is best suited to provide it.

IIRC, the Anglia EMUs went to Hornsey on a regular basis, via the NLL, once upon a time.

that sounds appalling but if you travel on them everyday you get used to it! As Mr Leigh often says correcting Ilford has had a 30% increase in units to look after the past few years and was already overstretched! No investment equals knackered old trains.....

But National Express cancelled their £10m refurb in 2009 to plough straight into their profits when they were almost declared bankrupt.....hence the truely appalling state of these once quite nice units! NX reported profits last year of £43m - up almost doubled from the year before......most of that profit was taken out of the Anglia franchise.....they have well and truely stuffed us all, assisted by the Dft who have now handed the franchise to the penny pinching Dutch Masters of Northen rail.....

Expect Pacers to appear soon! (Joke)

With the way things are going, there's no chance of Pacers appearing there - as they'd be too new and in far too good condition. :)

317710 has been plying it's trade back on the WA for a few weeks. All the others are off-lease and in the Aldersbrook CS.

O L Leigh

Where is Aldersbrook CS, can it be seen from the GEML, and is there any word on why 317710 is still about and when it will leave.

As you head out of London on the GEML, Aldersbrook CS are on the right hand side just before Ilford, under the North Circular flyover. I was able to take a picture this morning as we crawled into London and will try to post tonight.

Here is a picture taken this morning of the units sitting in the sidings, waiting to be covered in graffiti. This is whilst people are standing on overcrowded services on the GEML.

What a chronic waste of what appear to be perfectly serviceable trains!

so does anyone know what happened to destroy the OHLE at Thorpe Le Soken today and cause so much carnage?

Noted that WA is also down......another bad day at the office!

They are interesting units, I hope they find a new home they are better suited to soon. If they went to LM and then GA could have LM's 7 321s for extra capacity, and LM wold have enough units to do Walsall to Wolverhampton direct again.

Thorpe Le Soken was down due to cable theft. So I was told by a colleague this evening.

One of the 317's in Aldersbrook sidings had to be taken to Ilford Emud to have a massive amount of graffiti removed today too!

And a person hit by a train today, the GEML fun never ends, understand very little of this is GA's fault, but they must be wondering when their luck is going to change.

I am one of them, I can't remember a day when journeys to and from work were on time and a full lot of carriages.

It's about time our MP's got involved, but given most of them are in safe seats I don't see much action from them.

Clean trains are one thing, on-time, well that just isn't going to happen all of the time. You just cannot control external incidents like today's fatality at Harold Wood. We just have to grin & bear it.

and they have done a very nice refurb on 153306. They give the impression they care more than NXEA.

Nothing really to do with Greater Anglia, thats a ROSCO led refurb and would have been done whoever ran the franchise. The DMU fleet was due an Ovehaul regardless.

Doesn't surprise me one bit about Aldersbrook, when the 310's & 312's were stored in the sidings they had extensive graffiti by the time they came out. Have any 317's appeared at Clacton or Harwich for storage, as I thought this was the original plan?

another attack overnight! I am guessing they wont stay there very long - once the vandals get wind of one attack they will all descend and cover them!

Just a thought, but wouldn't it cost less to keep these units in service rather than pay to have the graffiti cleaned off them? Not sure how much either cost.

Will have a look at the damage on the way home tonight.
