I remember that VR when it moved to United. For 13 years old, it was in exemplary condition.

However, the world has moved on. Enthusiasts may love nostalgia, tan vinyl and high steps but passengers don't.

Around 1990 I was parked in a motorway service station with an 18 year old Bedford Duple Dominant I with bus grant doors, predominantly white with a yellow band. Parked alongside was a black Neoplan Skyliner less than a year old. 3 lots of passengers attempted to climb the multiple steps at the front of my coach instead of the one step in the middle of the Neoplan. How much do passengers actually notice?

I'd agree that says far more about the passengers than the coaches!

Today's buses are all much of a muchness, there are several I dislike but none that I'd place high above that benchmark. Historically though it's another thing- Yorkshire Rider's Atlanteans were ubiquitous as I was growing up, I was particularly fond of the celebrity pair of 6299 and 6300 which were painted in heritage liveries. 6300 (PUA300W) is preserved and back in the Huddersfield Corporation livery, it also appeared in an episode of Last of The Summer Wine while still with Yorkshire Rider.
Childhood is also my reason for liking the Bristol VRT and Leyland National 1- in that case from trips to visit grandparents, which involved crossing from the green (YR) North of Huddersfield to the red South (Yorkshire Traction) where buses seemed older but YT's VRTs and Nationals always had really springy, comfy seats, and smelled of coal dust due to carrying pit workers much of the time!

I've always quite liked the ones with wheels at each corner, and seats in them. Any other sort tend to be quite uncomfortable and a bit slow.
