York - Lincoln return/permitted routes

Will be doing this one day soon, just looking for any stations to split at (no advance tickets) for a day return with a YP railcard.

Also what are the permitted routes? Changing at Doncaster seems to be the main, although I do know I could get the Northern service that goes via Sheffield. Any others that can work?
