Yes it is possible and has been done many times. There are booked Voyagers for Nottingham to Bournemouth services as well. This is the same as the Leicester only services.

Only real issue is they can't call at Long Eaton.
They can, however the rear coach needs to be locked out of use. The next working of the train linked up thread is calling at Long Eaton.

That makes sense, I did notice the next one called there!

Short platforms and lack of selective door opening, unlike their Meridian cousins.
Very interesting, didnt know that! Yes I see it called there, but it makes sense the rear coach was locked out of use. It's a very luxurious journey to Birmingham in Voyager first class (with a standard ticket!)

Realtimetrains shows a Birmingham- Nottingham- Birmingham service being operated by a Class 221. I didn't realise it was 'possible' for these services to be a Voyager unit!?

According to Realtime Trains, First Class has been declassified for this journey. There will be some lucky passengers getting a nice surprise today.

No catering is showing either!

The "guard" on the train has to be a Train Manager rather than a Senior Conductor too. Train Managers are competent on VOY and S/C are competent on class 170s. Subtle difference.

As said above TM work 2A06 Derby Nottingham and 1O06 Nottingham-Bournemouth.

I wonder if the journey leg which has catering will have an in-house Retail Service Manager or one of the Fisco Hosts.

They were indeed, certainly between Birmingham and Derby, and not that many years ago. Only the front three coaches were available for use if the service called at Wilnecote and/or Willington.
That's jogged my memory. About 8 years ago, I caught a 5 coach 221 from Willington to Derby. It would have been around the evening Peak.

Previous discussion of similar occurrences in 2021 can be found on a thread titled Voyagers at University. Seems to have been somewhat common at the time, although in two years living in Gloucester around then I never managed to see it happen in person.

Yeah its certainly very rare for it to happen, in 10 years living in Nottingham I hadn't heard of or seen it happen until this week!

Unfortunately I missed it by 30 seconds on Thursday, but I still got a photo. 20250213_150741.jpg

I've been on the 0639 Voyager from Nottingham a few times, once all the way to Bournemouth. Nice and quiet until Birmingham!

I'm sure I'll be using it in the future- its great for lots of connections!

It's also special being the only 'express' from Beeston to Derby non-stop!
