The thought occurs that if it is not an issue to set it up to have an internet connection once, then having it permanently connected probably isn't that much of an issue either.

The further thought occurs that those who can't have it permanently connected either won't want to have to connect it up to the internet just to set the system up, or doesn't have an internet connection at all.

The trouble with an always on type connection (even just 24hrs) is that if your connection goes down your screwed. Recently my connection was down for 5 weeks thanks to BT. Your also in trouble if you want to take the console away for a weekend or more somewhere.

I dont think its unfair to say that the majority of people have some kind of connection available to them and setting the console up once in its life time (perhaps 7 years or more) is a small price to pay. No different to online activations for pcs.

If you don't have an internet connection the xbox one will be a waste of money purely from a gaming perspective. Microsoft have abandoned their offline players now, how many of the latest games, especially triple A ones, have had single player or local multiplayer as an afterthought to the online one compared to the other way around?

The once per 24 hours was an awful idea not because of technical limitations but because of exactly what they'd check and how and to whom that information would be sent. Can we trust a company heavily implicated in the PRISM scandal to do what it's says it does?

You can use a computer (headless or otherwise) for DNLA if required. Bonus points if it runs on free software.

At one point I was a relatively hardcore gamer. I burned myself out and lost a lot of my interest... but very recently I have visited some games again. My Xbox Live Gold subscription just ran out and I am struggling to decide whether to replace it.

As for the Xbox One, I thought the DRM and online restrictions were completely terrible, but it didn't me bother me much as I probably wasn't going to get one anyway. Now that they have had a hugely important back track, if my gaming habits reignite I may consider getting one, but probably only once they get cheaper.

I will never get a PS4, my gamertag has been invested in too heavily to switch and start afresh.

Has been reported now that allthough the xbox one will still ship with the kinnect sensor, it's use is completely optional. You can turn it right off or even not have it connected. May affect gameplay experience though if the game is designed with kinnect in mind.

Can't they just import it from the UK or Germany? It'll cost more admittedly but probably wouldn't shock me if it was cheaper to do so, especially in Scandinavia.

I wondered that but would a British console be compatible with games released off the shelves in Scandinavia?

That's what I was wondering too but came to the conclusion (based on no evidence whatsoever except history) that it'd be the PAL region and would work. DLC would be trickier as you may need a credit card issued in the country of purchase

Bit of a late reply, but xbox one and its games are region free so can be bought and played from any country. The only issue you might have is language support outside the 13 day one release countries.

On another note, if you were lucky enough to preorder at the right time, the xbox one day one edition comes with a free download copy of either Fifa 14 or Forza 5 *making the initial cost outlay not a great deal more expensive than the PS4.

*Assuming you were getting one of those games anyway.
