Lots of response here which I appreciate and afraid I have very little free time at the moment to unpick them all, but I don’t want to get into tit for tat, even if weird I have mainline open anytime return tickets on that day between Bicester/Marylebone to prove I paid for the entire journey. Just because it’s unusual it doesn’t mean it’s illegal, and I’ve obviously got some things to learn about saving money on trains. Sounds like me (and by extension my company) have been overpaying a lot then. I had no idea you could just tap, and to be honest the cost to me is largely irrelevant as if I’m going to site I’ll expense the ticket anyway.
I often use a combination of mainline train and tubes from Wembley Park to complete my journey, it just depends on when my meetings are vs when the trains are.
