Ok, so, I have an annual gold card that runs from Worthing to London Terminals and includes Zones 1-6 travel (and very expensive it is too sir ) via any route permitted. Southern of course are the operators.
Now, the usual route is via Hove, Haywards Heath, Gatwick, East Croydon etc. and usually end up at Victoria
However twice a month I drive to Leatherhead and take the train from there to Victoria - I assumed that with the trains being Southern still and from Worthing I can reach Victoria via Leatherhead by changing at Horsham.
However last time I was there they were installing barriers and now I'm worried that I actually can't do this
I know I can pick up a journey at an intermeddiate station but what I don't know is if Leatherhead is a 'permitted route' - I've had a look at the National Roueting Maps and can't make head nor tale of it..am I ok to take the parallel route from Worthing to Victoria going via Horsham and Leatherhead?

First go at this, so I hope I get it right...

Worthing is in both Brighton Group and Ford Group.

Brighton Group to London is valid via (LB) and (LB+SL)
Ford Group to London is valid via (LB), (LB+SC), (LP) and (SC)

So, looking at the maps, SC gives you what you're after, providing the trains run via Sutton and Mitcham Juncton.

So, I think the short answer is yes, it's valid.

Incidentally, it's not only valid to Victoria, but also Waterloo and London Bridge, according to the maps.

Nearly. Worthing has two routing points which are both groups. As long as the fare from London to any Ford group station is less than or the same as the fare from London to Worthing then it is a valid routing point. You must compare the same fare from one of these four types: SOS, SDS, SVS, CDS.

ok, thank you both, so basically the fare to leatherhead and back from london I believe is about £9 from memory, and the fare from London to Worthing is something like £20, making it a valid routing point?

No, the fare from (any member of) Ford (Group), not Leatherhead.

The fare from Ford to London appears to be the same as Worthing to London.

Therefore, Ford Group is an appropriate routeing point for Worthing to London.

Others have commented on the routeing, but there is a separate issue with the barriers.

For practical reasons they will almost certainly not be programmed to include all legitimate seasons through - think how many stations that would possibly include. When your ticket doesn't work them, don't take it as a sign there's a problem, you should just use the staffed barrier or gate.

and alas I tried the ticket in the barrier and it didn't work - your explanation makes sense. I waved my ticket at the barrier staff, he saw the gold colour, checked to make sure it was in date but didn't actually look at the to and from and let me through lol
