If you watch Channel 4 or ITV's stream, traditional adverts tend to be embedded in the programme (and they won't let you skip them).
You can't skip ads in live broadcast TV either (you were talking about live streaming, not VoD).

Advertisers will pay for ads in VoD precisely because they can make them un-skippable and because there's an accurate count of how many times they have been viewed (well, at least how often they've been streamed).

But with live streaming, you can't skip adverts either, so I don't see why they can't stream the programmes on line.

Because it's very expensive (as mentioned above) and advertisers won't pay extra due to no way to accurately measure how live streams increase viewing figures (if anything, it's actually likely to be the same viewers, just on the Internet rather than watching traditional TV).

Good luck with finding a freeview box that doesn't need SCART. Those that do have an RF out are generally only pass through. I hate to say it, but you need to upgrade.

The goodmans GDR11 do have an RF out and are decent boxes with a universal remote functionality for basic TV control as well.

But really, just get a new TV. And as for cheap ones don't worry about the name on the box, even the cheap branded ones (Panasonic, Toshiba, Hitachi, Philips Etc.) are all made by the same company (Vestel) as the supermarked own brands.

The internet age never ceases to underwhelm.
