Why has Essex Road stayed the same since the 80s?

A simple question, why has GTR preserved the Network Southeast branding in the station, despite it being about 30 years since privatisation?

Are there just not enough passengers at Essex Road to warrant changing things? Maybe someone at GTR is actively preserving the NSE iconography?

Too much of the signage was structural, eg ceramic tiles, or metal panels on far side tunnel linings through stations. It was usually assumed that they couldn’t use vinyl overlays due to underground fire safety rules. Basically too expensive to change for little benefit.

There have however been many previous discussions of NCL NSE signage, it’s mostly in the normal stations and infrastructure forum. This isn’t really the right place as it’s not really an intentional ‘preservation’ matter

It’s the modern equivalent of the old NER tiled maps that survive a century after the company disappeared. Long may it continue!
