Can you remember what there was at track level, and is anything visible from passing trains?
I assume there is not much, probably less than you can see at some evacuation points.
Can't remember that much. There was certainly no access to the track although you could see the trains. It was only meant for one way use and that was up.

Netherton Rd fan shaft between Finsbury Pk & Seven Sisters was also an emergency evacuation site when the Victoria Line opened, don‘t know if it still is.

I think the more important point is why does it take so long going the other way from Mile End? Would love an interchange with the two Overground lines at Shoreditch.

Changing at Mile End and Whitechapel isn't that onerous, surely? And the vertical distance between Central and East London at Shoreditch woukd make for a slow interchange. No chance of platforms for the ex GER anyway.

IIRC they stated they didn’t want another Central Line interchange mainly because it would cause too much overcrowding on the Central, but I also saw something about the existing track layout making it extremely difficult. The usual difficulty is with finding a stretch of straight and level track to meet current platform engineering standards, and allow for both escalators and lifts to the surface.
