Why did this train lose 10 minutes?

The 2G47 1633 London Waterloo to Guildford, departing on 7th January 2025, departed Waterloo 4 minutes late but arrived in Guildford 14 minutes late. I am wondering where the extra 10 minutes of delay came from.

I was not on this journey but was on the next journey made by this train, to London Waterloo via Epsom, getting off at Epsom 12 minutes late. I ask because this particular train is very frequently late and there is only 1 train an hour to Epsom at this time of day.

Extended station dwell times appear to be the main culprit. As you show in your extract.
The train spent longer in a number of stations than the working timetable allows for.

From a layman's view surely 450s really aren't suitable for the mainline suburban network. Too many stops combined with a slow door cycle. It only requires a guard who's slow to release the doors and and a cautious driver and I can see how this might happen.

3 mins at Surbiton and another 3 before Guildford attributed to non DOO station dwell.
4 min late start and the other minutes were due to traffic conflict due to late running.

Thanks, some passengers agree that this type of Desiro is not suited to suburban stopping services. However, the turnaround for this service is tight and the journey back lost no time.

At that time it would be against the peak flow so quieter.

It’s the same with the 444s on longer-distance work. A one-minute dwell at Basingstoke and Winchester in the evening peak services is fantasy-land.

It’s quite eye-opening how slow things can be. It can often be 30+ seconds between doors closing and the train starting to move. That adds up over a long distance journey. Elizabeth line feels like a different planet!

This is pretty close to a peak service. It left Waterloo 4 late which would already slot it out of path on a pretty busy SWML.
