Why did they design it like that?

Appliances and features with superfluous clocks, exemplified by our built-in oven and microwave.

They are one above the other so it's really annoying when the bright red clocks are different, can't easily be synchronised and seem to diverge even if they are. If the clocks aren't set they just flash 000 and the appliance won't even work (any function - not just the timer which we don't understand and never use). Multiple button pushes needed to set them forward or back an hour, and the setting mode times out after a few seconds if no buttons are pressed. A previous microwave would just blank its display but otherwise work normally if the time wasn't set within a couple of minutes.

To a greater or lesser degree, any other appliance with a clock that isn't necessary for it to function or convenient when you need to know the time, or doesn't use some online or radio service to keep itself accurate including daylight saving.

Our microwave gives you the option of a clock or it goes in to energy saving mode with no display and requiring you to open the door to get it back on again.

Also on loos, the “touch a smiley face” satisfaction survey near the exit, as seen in many motorway services. Not likely mate, seeing how many people walk straight out after doing their business, without bothering the washing facilities.
Totally agree with this. Seen these at airports all around Europe and I don't understand how they could've thought of this without the glaringly obvious hygeine concerns. Children repeatedly pressing one button (from what I've seen usually the happy face, so no point is gotten across either) just messes up any results they could have gotten.

It just makes the corporation look like it cares.

‘How did we do?’ texts & emails.

"On a scale of 1 to 10, how likely are you to recommend [product or service] to friends and relatives?"

Well, 1, because I don't go round randomly recommending things to people.
