Who is resaponsible for delay repay when three TOCs involved?

I bought a ticket from Axminster to Penryn -
the SWR train was 0n time to Exeter St Davids. I was then going to use a X Country train to Truro, but it was 67 minutes late. So I boarded a GWR train to Truro, connecting at Truro with another GWR train to Penryn. I was just over an hour late at Penryn.
It seems to me that X Country were responsible for the delay so I've claimed against them - although I never used their train - as I was scheduled to use their train for the bulk of the journey.

Am I correct?

XC are liable in this scenario.

CrossCountry are indeed liable since their train's delay is the reason you arrived at Penryn late.

It can be more complicated to work out the liable TOC in cases where two (or more) trains were disrupted, e.g. where both were cancelled, or one had already been cancelled but the other would have resulted in you missing the connection anyway.

Fortunately that's not the case here so it's a straightforward DR claim to XC.
