Services are apparently returning to normal following the failed train being removed but what train was it that failed?

2x142 Rose Hill service brake issues. They ended up splitting them to get them back to picc

If only it was still 4-track from Ardwick to Guide Bridge...

Though I guess it'd all go to waste anyway once (most of) the TPEX services switch to MCV!

A typical commuter-belt part of north-west England
Did I miss something here? When are services switching to MCV?

I think that reference is being made to those First TPE Manchester Airport services to York, Middlesbrough and Newcastle that currently have to reverse at the terminal platforms at Manchester Piccadilly, then to proceed through Ardwick to Guide Bridge. The Ordsall Chord proposals will see these services using the through platforms at Manchester Piccadilly then via the Ordsall Chord into Manchester Victoria and continuing onwards from there.

Indeed, and also the Liverpools which will run through Victoria and onto Chat Moss.

I remember them on the Hope Valley Services, was one of the units a green 3 car set ?

Originally green 101685 was a three car set in summer and reduced to two in winter, however after a few years the centre car was stored at Blackpool sidings. There was also a Regional Railways liveried three car set.

I would be interested to hear whether Hope Valley users see the Pacers as an improvement over the 101s.

Remember riding the summer Saturdays 2x101 diagram from Man Picc - Blackpool North in circa-2001 and seeing the surprised look on some of the waiting passengers' faces when the train arrived at Preston!

I remember riding the Bradford-Huddersfield-Penistone services in circa 1959, and seeing the [pleasantly]surprised look on some of the waiting passengers' faces when the train arrived at Halifax, as they were expecting a tank engine and three non-corridor coaches. :)

Ah...Nurse, the curtains!
