Ilford will be a Crossrail station. In the past I have bought InterCity tickets here, nowadays I tend to use the Internet and collect my tickets from the machines. I like to do this in advance of travel, rather than at the last minute.

I'll be mighty peeved of Crossrail and TfL takeover deny me this.

OK, I can get them from the platform 6/8 ticket machine at Stratford (assuming that TfL dont remove that too), but only if passing through. I walk to Ilford (usually via my local park) and that way the journey to collect the tickets is free.

Simon

I very much doubt that those facilities will be removed. MTR Crossrail have to comply with national rail ticketing obligations - it's in their contract. TfL haven't been able to remove the same obligations from London Overground so I simply don't see it happening on Crossrail.

I confess, I do not know the answer to this. Considering we won't handle NR-issued tickets, I would suspect not. Hardly helpful when we are being given the advice I posted above, I agree! :(

Who is giving this advice? If someone is giving wrong advice, which is likely to result in anyone following that advice being left out of pocket, then that needs to be robustly challenged.

What are customers supposed to do when starting their journey from an LU station without facilities to sell the ticket they need at the correct price?

Which is the nearest remaining ticket office open from Mile End and what time will it close tonight?

THank You, Tommy

Could anyone tell me what the status of the stations at the north-eastern end of the Piccadilly Line is please? I believe they are/were due to start closing this month. Reason I ask is because at the weekend a relative needs to buy an annual travelcard and then get the gold card discount loaded; it seems to me that tube ticket offices (or visitor centres, which would require a trek in to zone 1) are the only reliable options to get the whole job done.

I changed buses at Kilburn Park 2 weeks ago and saw a notice that the ticket office there would soon close.

its a bit late for the 'Standard to start complaing that people are queuing at machines, for up to 1 hour at tube stations, last year they were singing a very different tune...

http://www.standard.co.uk/news/tran...to-an-hour-just-to-buy-a-ticket-a3111656.html

What "different tune" were they "singing" last year?

Given that this survey in question was only published today, do you genuinely expect them to travel back in time to report on an issue before they knew it existed?

I would imagine that their coverage of the industrial action by station staff against the ticket office cuts in the first place is what was being referred to, seeing as the Evening Standard seemed quite happy with the company line that ticket offices were unnecessary at the time.

Did they ever say they were in favour of queues of an hour just to use ticket machines? That sounds like a straw man argument.

Having to wait an hour just to use a ticket machine is totally unacceptable, and it is right to draw attention to it. Launching an ad hominem attack against the messenger who dares to mention that the issue exists does not add anything to an intelligent discussion.

While there can be long queues at some stations, I am sceptical that they would ever be an hour long, and suspect the TSSA are exaggerating somewhat.

When I worked at Euston Ticket Office in the late 90's we carried out an exercise on queuing times. One Saturday morning I noted a prospective passenger join the queue and 20 mins later he reached the Ticket window. This was with all the Ticket windows in operation. Therefore I think the hour waiting for a ticket machine could be possible.

Surely it would always be likely that long queues/delays would occur soon after ticket offices are closed. Once people realise that quicker alternatives exist the queues will reduce.

TFL need to do more to spread the message about contactless cards being used for going through barriers. Has saved me queuing up plenty of times and it is the same prices as if you had an Oyster card.

I've seen 90 minute queues at King's Cross St Pancras before on the day of an event at Wembley.

Yesterday while on a Southern train to London Bridge, a French tourist who arrived from Gatwick asked me how to get to London Bridge tube. So walked with her and her young son, the conversation went to buying tickets and told her that the ticket office is no longer open and would have to use the machines. When I left her, only one CSA was supervising the machines and he was at the Northern line gate entrance.

She was really surprised that we've closed the ticket office and relied on me to suggest Oyster or contactless.

So.......? A foreign tourist arrives in London and is surprised that a ticket office has been closed. Really ? The CSA and/or machines were there, so what's the issue ?

The issue is that there is no longer an obvious ticket office for a tourist to use.

London Bridge (Tooley Street) ticket hall is also huge with ticket machines at either end of the hall. (One set by the Northern line escalators and another for the Jubilee) One CSA for two sets of POM's isn't acceptable for what is a busy Zone 1 interchange where it's very likely that tourists will require extra help.

This is the same when I have been to foreign lands in Europe and others will say the same so why is it such a problem over here then?

Well, of course there isn't a ticket office for a tourist to use, that's what would be expected from a programme to close ticket offices ! It sounds like a few more signs might be helpful if the tourists can't see where to go/what to do.

Stations north of Queen's Park on the Bakerloo line and Gunnersbury and Kew Gardens (the ex-Silverlink stations) retain their ticket offices for the time being.

As the blog post says. Because they're in an odd position of being TfL run, Underground branded but not subject to the same rules, they'd actually have to consult individually on each closure.
