Where next to double track?

Westerton to Bearsden, Hillfoot to Milngavie.

More than anything else this. Used to be double track with a half hourly service, now single with a 15 minute service!

Would also echo Busby to East Kilbride, Barrhead to Lugton, Tomatin to Culloden. I would also add Stanley to Dunkeld, and (if possible) Dalwhinnie-Kingussie-Aviemore-Carrbridge. Madness that such an important route has so much single track.

Also increasing double track sections on the Borders line would be good, as there's no spare capacity to recover late running without cancelling due to the extent of single track.

Crewe to Alsager.

Given how often it's used as a diversion for the WCML it needs to be less of a bottleneck.

If it wasn't then surely they would only have a hourly service on weekdays as well as on weekends? The fact that they DO operate a half hourly service on weekdays says that the demand is there and just needs developing the weekend market.

The half hourly service is for commuters, plus one post-peak in marginal time.
