Wheelflats on 323s

Why do 323 units seem to suffer so many wheelflats? They run on our local Manchester - Crewe line and though I like them, whenever I ride them there's always the hammering accompaniment of a wheelflat.

Don't they have ABS?

They're fast accelerating, hard braking units - in wet conditions wheelslip therefore is far more likely, hence the greater frequency of wheelflats.

And no, they don't have ABS! In fact, I don't think any train has ABS!

I would have thought WSP would be the railways version of the ABS system

323s aren't fitted with WSP (Wheel Slip Protection). I've noticed that on my local line (Macclesfield - Piccadilly) and seem to have a tendency to slip a foot or two backwards before accelerating out of the station, quite bad in very wet weather!
