Ive only heard about TFL but not much about Network Rail in terms of progression career wise after doing the apprenticeship. Was anyone here a rail engineer or did a apprenticeship in engineering with Network Rail?
Is it good? Also salary wise what's it like.
(I failed but hopefully next year)
I cant answer the salary but if you could end up working in Track, Signalling, Telecommunications, Overhead Lines, Locking Fitter, and Distribution & Plant. I know some folks who wanted one and ended up in another, I assume its were the jobs are in your allocated depot. As with all large companies there is plenty of staff turn over so always progress opportunities be it with maintenance, works delivery or into projects. That said a lot of those entry level jobs to help you move from say a maintenance tech role to a assistant project engineer are vanishing so opportunities in traditional career paths are more limited - but defiantly still there!
A lot of project engineering support is handled by contractors so don't overlook what opportunities they offer.
