Attleborough isn’t on the Fens. Ely North Jcn-Lakenheath is the problem area on that route and anything not adhering to SP speeds has a maximum speed of 45mph.
Ely North Junction to Lakenheath seems to be MU now according to the sectional appendix?track_diagram_255.pngtrack_diagram_256.png

I can only assume that’s an error. All boards show SP and nothing has been done in the way of upgrading the track which I understand ‘floats’ in this area.

Update - So I’ve been reliably informed that GA funded the signage change from SP to MU to allow the 755s to take advantage of the full line speed after the fuel tanks were modified so as to carry less diesel a therefore weigh less. How this affects the 185/220/221/222 fleets if using the route I couldn’t honestly say.

185s are banned from using MU limits due to being to heavy however 220s, 221s and 222s might be permitted to MU limits.

Cheers. Apart from travelling in them now and again I have little knowledge regarding the 185s. Just knew they were heavyweights.

If the signage was changed specifically to allow the 755's, that doesn't mean it wouldn't get changed again if someone wanted to run the significantly heavier 22x's along there.

When the trial run was done the result was an adamant "it's never going to work" not a "we just need to change some signs".
