What am I?

I'm an item that harks back to the late 70s on the railway, and I still see daily use. I can be found on platforms at stations such as Leicester, York, Gloucester, Cardiff, Bristol and Kings Cross to name but a few. I can be used for all manners of traction, many built years after I was introduced to the railway system.

Happy guessing. Clues would be impossible without giving too much away, but I'll give hot and cold indicators.

Eh, that's just a bit random. I'm something that can be used on varius types of traction, ergo I cannot be a type of stock or traction myself. Try again.

Would you believe it was got so quickly, yep, the brushes that were introduced for the use of HST drivers to scrape the insects off windscreens when they have a little time. I thought of this when I saw my driver using one on our Turbo at Gloucester. Well played that man.

Ah these aren't the proper ones as they don't have the little rubber disk on the handle that stops the stinking fly/pigeon soup running down the handle and then over your hands and arms

There are plenty of operational platforms that don't have that.
There are probably some operational platforms that don't have a station name sign too, but it's the closest thing I can think of to fitting the description.

How about Customer Information Screen?

Couldnt be either. Lots of stations with only 1 platform have no platform number, and I know personally of a fair few stations with no customer information screen on the entire station, let alone platforms.
