West Sutton to Euston - 6 April

I'm looking for some advice as to the quickest route from West Sutton (or surrounding area) to Euston on 6 April. I'll be leaving after 17:00 (I'm watching Stockport play at Sutton United and the game is unlikely to be finished any earlier) in the hope of getting either the 18:13 to Stockport (which seems optimistic given I'll likely miss the 16:52 Thameslink service) or the following service at 18:33. TfL's journey planner is throwing up the 413 bus to Morden > Northern line to Stockwell > Victoria line to Warren Street > pointless bus to Euston, arriving at 18:12. Is this the quickest way? I'd walk from Warren Street to Euston, no point faffing with buses for what is a 4 minutes walk, if that. Also slightly strange that the journey planner is consistently suggesting Warren Street and bus as opposed to Euston tube station itself.

Can I also confirm the journey would be £6, which I believe is the contactless single fare from zone 1-5 and vice versa?

I suspect the TfL journey planner is trying to route people to avoid Euston Underground station because of the ongoing escalator refurbishment works. But they're too clever by half - as it only affects the escalators going down to the Northern (Bank branch) and Victoria line platforms - the up escalator is still working. There's also a (short) spiral staircase for access.

The quickest route would likely be to take the 80, 154 or 164 bus to Morden and then the Northern line to Stockwell. You can then change there for the Victoria line to Euston - this saves about 10 minutes compared to staying on the Northern line.

If you did take the train from West Sutton, the contactless or Oyster PAYG fare would be £6 - off-peak fares apply all day as 6 April is a Saturday. Alternatively, if you took the bus to Morden and then the Tube it would be £1.75 plus £3.20, so a total of £4.95.

It's worth noting that there are different 'fare scales' depending on the route(s) you travel over - so not all Zone 1-5 journeys cost the same. This page (from @MikeWh's ever helpful Oyster Fares site) indicates the fare scales that apply to each route, and what you are charged if you mix them. A journey from West Sutton to Euston involves the NR scale from West Sutton to your choice of NR-LU interchange, followed by the TfL-LU scale for the journey to Euston - so you are charged the NR-T ("mixed mode") fare.

If you just want to look up the fare quickly, this is easily done through TfL's single fare finder or third party sites which use its data (e.g. LT Fares, the sister site to BR Fares, or this page on the Oyster Fares site). But hopefully the above explains why you might be charged different amounts for seemingly 'equivalent' journeys.

The 413 stop is closest to the ground, but the 80 at the other side of the park is more direct; the 154/164 are another few hundred metres away.

Remember that trains at West Sutton destination "Sutton" actually go back into town - so you have 4tph there. I assume you'd walk STP-EUS.

West Sutton to STP takes a full hour whichever way round you go.

If the stars align, West Sutton-Wimbledon-Vauxhall-Euston might be worth checking.
