I'm assuming that it wouldn't be viable for TOCs to have lots of spare coaches sitting around because TOCs wouldn't to pay leasing fees to the ROSCOs and track access charges to NR to have spare coaches sitting in carriage sidings all day.

It's due to the way privatisation was done in this country and this has never been remedied. We have a much, much more expensive railway than we had before. Yes, the investment is there in terms of the raw numbers, but the way it is spent is not getting the best value for money.

the Brighton is generally packed anyway, we went to Gloucester one Saturday in December and was wedged after Gloucester, had a long journey to go to Brighton yet, was a 150 too, glad I wasn't on it really!

As for the delays in Loco hauled stuff, I wonder how much FGW pay in delays for the Weymouth run then each summer Saturday, when I did it often it was generally late into Trowbridge from BRI.

Which is why rather then have Bristol to Paignton as loco hauled to transfer the set onto Brighton to Great Malvern and have 158s on Bristol to Paignton.

The Taunton to Cardiff via Bristol would remain as loco hauled though.
