Just checking I'm not going mad here.

Got caught up in Snowmageddon in March. Trains binned out of Edinburgh, ended up getting a hotel, travelled the next day. The train the next day was 45 mins late. 2x off peak returns Newcastle-Edinburgh Gateway.

They've just come back with £18- the 30 minute delay- not the full whack of £72.

Clearly VTEC just being morons? Surely they can't do this? And yes, I emailed them the specifics rather than using the form.

Write back again and explain that your intended journey was the day before. You’d were entitled to travel on any service but would only be entitled to delay repay on the first service that you could have taken. This makes no difference as it is still over the 2hr threshold.
If there were no opportunities to get home you’ll be wanting to claim did your hotel too. I am aware of lots of people who have had payouts of tickets in full and 3 or 4 nights of hotel at a young £80 per night without any question.
